XWing and TIE Fighter on GoG Soon.

Would be nice if these were in a modern engine.

Used to have xwing vs tie fighter but traded it for a adv game. Kinda wish i kept it and tried to play it. Ah well i might get these and give em a go. Hope some mods come out that might improve the gfx a bit like smoothing and stuff.

While I love these games, some of favourite PC games ever... I often feel those memories are best left where they are as playing them again now will ruin them.

Massive win for the guys and girls over at GOG though, this must have taken ages to get signed up.

Would love a proper modern remake of these.

Edit: Ok caught a youtube video, yeah I think I couldn't resist playing these again :D

I wonder if you'll be able to use a controller for these, if not I guess its time to invest in a joystick for the first time in about 10 years!

I remember buying TIE fighter, only to realise it required a joystick (no alternatives).

Ended up getting my first (and only) joystick the next day. I seem to recall it used the serial (or game??) port.

I remember having all of these, some of the first PC games I got! Came out on.. White Label?

I think X-wing vs Tie Fighter was the game that got me into messing around with hardware and PCs in general, the fun of having to set up IRQ values etc for my soundblaster to get both the sound and joystick working at the same time... :p

Yeah, the game port, which was usually part of the soundcard for some bizarre reason... I seem to remember mine had a ribbon cable with the game port on a little daughter board on a second PCI backplate.

The graphics in those youtube videos look dire though, I don't remember it ever looking that bad (although I guess on a 14" crt it was difficult to tell!)

I do think £10 is a little steep and I hope they've done some tweaking to make it work with modern, ten times more powerful PC's and it will support USB Joysticks. If it sells well I also hope it will show there's still a market for space combat simulators and they remake them both with a modern engine. The level of support for Star Citizen and ED should show Disney and EA that the market is there. Do it!

Tie fighter was epic, I remember sneaking to the downstairs PC in like 1996 to play all night long and sneak back to bed before school, :p

I played this about a year ago with a hacked version.

Graphics wise I thought it was still very playable. What killed it for me was I didn't have a joystick and you had to reset the key bindings everytime you booted the game which got annoying quickly.

If they managed to get that sorted it should be pretty decent.

They are online now to buy for £6.19
