Hey guy's

My job contract has just been re visited by our brand new shiny general manager Bob.

After several discussions with the owner of the company and myself all of the terms were set for 8-5 Monday - Friday for a total of 45 hours with no time and half.

I was okay with this and we all agreed around the table and i was to receive my contract the following morning. (16.10.14)

Just now i received this contract and Bob has proven to me how amazing he is.

My contract renewal letter has me down for working

Monday-Wednesday 8-6 For a total of 40 Hours work???? I don't know how he added this up as far as i can tell with numbers 10x3 = 30?

When i mentioned this to him not only did he run around like a headless chicken but the blame finger also came out pointing all over (they said this he said that she said this.) I averted his attention to the fact that i understood he was new and finding his way and wasn't offended or concerned about the mistake and just wanted it amending.

So now we have another meeting discussing my job and what hours i am doing despite the fact that i have told him the company owner has told him in front of me and he sat writing notes as we both did this.

A part of me wants to sign it, work 3 days and complain next week when i receive 3 days of pay instead of 4. It's a shame that i wouldn't want to rip the owner off or i would haha

I feel his pain, but i don't think bob is going to last to long.

Has anybody else had any silly job contracts turn out like this?

Having fun and games with my contract at the moment - unfortunately due to the nature of what I do the contract has a fairly open clause in regard to working hours but I've an agreement to make myself available for work between 8am and 9pm which has been in place for a few years. I've fairly frequently bent that a bit and sometimes worked til midnight, etc. or come in earlier but now they want to extend it to 4am with 4 weeks notice, which for family reasons (but unfortunately not to a degree I can go down the carer/flexible working route) there is no possibility of doing, they are basically saying if I don't agree to it they will issue a letter from HR and go down the disciplinary route the first time I don't turn up for a 4am shift with the intention of firing me. (Great thank you for the fact I've voluntarily agreed to doing 15 hours overtime a week for the next 3 months when no one else would step up and been flexible with regard to my contracted availability due to ongoing issues).

Fun and games :S

Surely that's not legal? They can't force that sort of change on you without you agreeing to it in the written contract?

Its a little tricky as my contract is somewhat open ended as regards to hours and availability but its a huge shift from the intentions of my contract terms.

I think somewhat its a ploy to try and pressure people into agreeing to it as an easy fix to some of the ongoing issues for them. (This is coming down from above my boss who is horrified by it as its going to cost them some good staff).

None the less I'll be getting proper legal advice ongoing.
