**** Sony Xperia Z3 ****

Been messing around with Nova launcher to help tidy up my home screen etc. How do I change the appearance of the lock screen? Like the time & date widget for example.

Sorry for all the questions lately. I'll give you guys some peace soon:p

Hi guys,

I am due for an upgrade with my current phone being Samsung S3 running Cyanogenmod and previous phone being an iPhone.
I was tempted to move back to Apple after my S3 became slow but after the iPhone 6 was announced and getting the speed back via cyanogenmod I prefer to stay with android.

After reading around and asking a few people it seems that the Z3 is the android phone to have atm, Nexus 6 would probably be a bit too big for me. My only question regarding the Z3 is how good is Sony with updates? Will it be a long wait for Lollipop? I hate Samsungs bloatware and their delay in updating to the new android systems.

I have only had the Xperia Z3 a day but I am ready to post some initial impressions

The display is beautiful. The colours are vibrant but not over-saturated, they appear to be reasonably accurate. the viewing angles are excellent. The 1080p resolution means the display is incredibly crisp - I do not miss Quad HD whatsoever.

I am really enjoying the quality of the audio, which seems to be slightly better than the Z2. The speakers may be a little bit quieter than the Z2 but the quality is improved: the bass is richer for example. The fact that the speakers are stereo is a massive advantage of this phone and is something that in my view, is a major selling points for phones nowadays.

The build is excellent. The sides are now rounded off, which means the phone is far more comfortable in the hand. The aluminium construction feels very high-quality and it has that "cold" feel in the morning which I like The back of the Z3 is a slab of glass (as is the front), which has the disadvantage of being very finger-print prone but it does feel quite nice under the fingers.

The button placement in my opinion, is really good. The power button is naturally where my thumb rests and the actual button itself is massively improved over the Z2: it feels much more "clicky" and tactile. The volume rocker is below that - unlike on the Z2, it isn't curved, it's completely flat. In my opinion, this isn't much of a loss, the volume rocker still feels very tactile and the volume up and down buttons are easy to press. Differentiating the buttons (e.g. when you're in a dark room) is very easy as they feel so different. Have a dedicated camera button is excellent. It allows quick access to the camera and allows focus by half-pressing it and then pushing it down the whole way takes a photo.

Those are my initial impressions. I'll keep this thread updated with anything interesting I find and my full review will be coming soon! :D

Any questions, let me know :)

Is it normal on android to only have notifications on the notification bar and no where else? For example right now I have a notification for snapchat and a text message but the text message icon on my dock has no notification.

Are you using a launcher? If using Nova you have to download "Tesla" to make sure you get notifications, not sure if this is the same for other launchers.

Just got a fairly good deal from vodafone for a Z3, I'm getting it on the recommendations in this thread :D It better be good xD

Anyone using a case mate slim tough with it ?

Downloaded TeslaUnread Plugin and got SMS notifications ticked but still no notification on icon. Just had a text now to confirm it. Looking on Google about it now and seems I might need the paid for version of Nova for it to work.

Seriously tempted by this as my S3 is getting a bit long in the tooth, was originally looking at the Note 4 but the contracts seem to be a lot more expensive and I already have to carry a Note 2 around for work so not sure I want to have 2 phablets!

Best deal I can find at the moment with a decent amount of data is unlimited calls, texts and 2GB of data on EE with a free phone for £30.99. Anyone know of anything better?

Neil

I'm unlimited calls and text with 10GB data for £26 a month with EE. I pay extra for insurance though.

Back again with yet more assistance needed. If I get a text it shows in the notification bar which is really handy, however it also shows a preview of the text which is not so handy. Anyway to turn preview off? Checked message settings as well as phone settings itself.

Finally got around to turning this thing on and it's been worth the wait.

Stoosh likes to know what phones I've got (:p): Moto X, Xperia Z3, OnePlus One.

As your sponsor I need to be updated on a regular basis :D

Two things though - when did you get the OPO? That one snuck past my radar..;)

Secondly why did it take ages turning the Z3 on Mate?

FYI - I've sold the Z3c and I have a Z3 being delivered tomorrow :)

I still have the N5...

I'm guessing this was some sort of retention deal as there is nothing like this available for new customers. Trying to move from Tesco Mobile sim only.
