I asked my friend to spec me a system, here is what they came up with (he works for a computer building place, but ignore that!)

Your basket

  • Intel Core i5-4690 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail
  • Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 WindForce 3x OC Rev2 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Black PCB**
  • Corsair CS750M 750W Semi-Modular 80+ GOLD Certified Power Supply (CP-9020078-UK)
  • Gigabyte Z97-HD3 Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
  • Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)

This comes to around £600 - I only wanted to spend around £400. Is it possible to get a similar build around £400, or should I just go for the build that was designed?

I already have SSD / Case / Monitor and peripherals!

Thanks :D

Well the PSU is MASSIVELY overspecced, you only need 450-550w for that..

If you're not OCing grab a B85/H97 motherboard, as it has all the same features, bar 1600+ RAM support..

What HAve you already got? Specifically, brand, model ect..?

Does that include case and everything or just those parts listed?

I already have a case - the £600 quoted above is just for the parts listed, i'd ideally like to spend £400 ish.

What is this used for?

Gaming, but not necessarily top-end. I play dark souls, borderlands, and bf4 on occasion.

I have a coolermaster elite 430 case, and an old-school SSD (Crucial M4).

I'll still need to add some ram right? :o

Nope.

8GB included as part of the bundle.

:p

Thanks for the build - how dissimilar is this to the build my friend quoted? Sorry i'm rubbish at all this!

Apart from the difference in core speed on the CPU they are identical.

The H61m board has less SATA+USB ports and slots etc, but still has USB3.0 on the rear and some SATAIII ports.

The R9 280 is faster than a GTX760 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1332?vs=1038
