Is it easy?

I've left it too late to book train tickets for me and a mate, meaning the ticket prices have gone astronomically high and I begrudge paying £100 for something I could have got for £30 a few weeks ago.

Driving from Newcastle (the real one) to Manchester, Pollard street to be precise.

Easy peasy, just have to watch out for the traffic. Think there's a few average speed speed cameras on the way down now too so watch out for those.

Yes driving may be easy, but I haven't driven long distance cross country before. Furthest I've driven is Newcastle to Dunbar straight up the A1 and that was 5 years ago.

Dead easy 2 1/2 hours (traffic depending) should be fine

As said watch the variable speed limit when your coming west and the 50 limit due to roadworks on the ring road

Timing will be crucial, try to reach Manchester early in the afternoon and you should be fine. Morning and evening rush hours (3 hours actually) are a nightmare.

Really simple. Straight down the A1 (M) and across the M62 (Or you could go A69 then down the M6 if you wished)

Don't worry about it, there are loads of sign posts pointing you to Manchester, and the motorway lanes are clearly sign posted too. Do you have a Sat Nav?

Just be prepared for traffic delays and leave yourself plenty of breathing room should you get held up :)

Yes. A1 and then M62 is the best and easiest way. Have done it a few times.

My wife has even done it on her own so it is clearly quite straightforward ;)

It's easy to drive yes, but if you've looked at getting the train, have you looked at getting the bus? Can get a megabus return ticket for about £15.

I drove from Wales to Manchester, apart from the traffic on the motorway, and average cams everywhere these day, wouldnt expect it would be much different coming from further up north.

Meh I drive from southern cornwall to Manchester (knutsford) sometimes twice a week :D

The only thing to watch for are the endless average speed limits
