LL oils + 18k change intervals = waste of time

I think I'll stick to the service interval that Ford recommend, which is 12,500 miles. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me. Unless, Simon, you reckon I should do different? Obviously I want to make sure my engine is as healthy as I possibly can without doing anything pointless!

It's lower than their diesel intervals (which are 18k IIRC) so I presume they recognise the need for the petrol engine (turbo, direct injection etc) to have fresh oil more often.

I'm still amazed so many of you continue to bite, every thread the OP starts ends with identical bemusement. Either a clever troll fishing for reaction or prime candidate for mumsnet....

Nothing to do with troll fishing etc.

It's only the a significant minority of *** remove my edit again and you will be suspended *** - Will Gill on this sub-forum who don't know better and always insist that up is down, down is up etc. If a car manufacturer said tomorrow that they've extended the oil change interval to 100k, there are some here who would follow it blindly....

Look on every other well used specialist car forum and the huge number of people who DON'T run 18,000 miles on the same oil. If you own any VAG turbo'd car for instance, you'd be utterly mad to be running to 18k.

Steady on, as I'm sure you are aware we don't tolerate insults here, even if you aren't being specific.

As for the actual topic, I'm not biting, despite being on the moderating team of two other massive car forums and well versed on the topic.

Can you not see it from our side? Every few weeks/months you start a thread trying to debunk some common-held belief. Your other postings/threads seem to be non-existent.

Can you not see how that looks to us?

The only trolling going on are people who are trying to deliberately troll the thread off track.

I dont need to ever change the oil on my BMW, it is self changing (It burns enough that in theory by the time it asks for a service the oil is actually totally changed anyway)

Car of the future

I couldn't care less :D

I'm not going to lose any sleep if you run your car for 50,000 miles on a single oil change.... :p

Don't really get what all the fuss is about. Audi make it pretty simple on there website?

Put it this way...I wouldn't leave the old mini for 20,000 miles before a oil change.

I haven't had any issues with the diesel on long live servicing.

I used to change sometimes mid interval if I'd piled on a few thousand and then had a big EU roadtrip or long haul down to the south of France. The E60 though sometimes swings will past 20k between intervals and it's still plodding on, 123k miles down the road.

Every 9000 miles, another reason to put me off an Audi. It's not an Evo, I don't want to service it every 30 seconds.

The BMW servicing can't be more than every 20k miles though?

I change my oil every 6k, only because the dephaser pulley is a weak point of the timing system and its worth trying to prolong the life of it for the sake of £30...
