Tesco in crisis

If it involves animal abuse, maybe just don't buy it at all.

It's easy to say that when one is able to afford, but you can't just say don't buy / eat to 'essentials' such as eggs where it carries good protein and energy content for the price.

Not a bash at you, just want to point out that for some groups, that's reality.

Hopefully this will make way for higher quality shops! I miss all the small green grocers/butchers :(

Support them then mate.

I often go to the market on a Saturday and the butchers at the same time. Overall for a weekly shop, it's about 15% more expensive, but much better.

You can be friends of the animals for all they care. If feeding one self and the family is the agenda with a very limited budget, the last thing on their mind is how were these hens treated to lay these half dozen eggs.

That's the harsh truth. Imposing moral views on it is pointless.

I can afford it, I do my best to support whatever I can.

Not everyone is as fortunate.

Never liked Tesco but it would appear they have finally had their boat rocked.

Eggs is one of the most versatile food, high fat, protein and nutrients, yes one can do without, but at the price it's being sold, it's hard to just avoid it because animals are being harmed.

come to newcastle under lyme market on a saturday then you can bag 30 pullet eggs for £2.50

and 20 XXL eggs for £3.50 all free range :D

McGray,

We're just going around in circles now.

My original reply to you is just to point to you, not everyone sees food with the same morality if it's energy for essential sustenance is held up by financial decisions. Eggs is just one of them things. Asking people not to eat it is not the answer.

Let's just agree to disagree as I believe we've veered the topic off from Tesco.

Meat, produce, spices, fish.

A quality piece of meat from the butchers is less than a quality piece from tesco. Cheap meat from the cash and carry is cheaper than tesco.

Produce is almost universally cheaper and of a higher quality, spices are cheaper by a massive amount in proper spice merchants.

And fish? Holy crap it's a rip off in tescos. I pay £7.50 for a kilo of king prawns from my fish guy. Tesco you'd be paying double or triple that for the same quality of prawns.

Just about everything, the milk is cheap though by a small margin, I buy 4 pints a week and just get them off the milkman because I can't be arsed for the sake of pennies. And the booze usually, except the wine which is generally very expensive given the quality.

If you want 3 bottles of cheap vinegar crap for £10 then it's good, if you want a palatable table wine for £5-6 a bottle then you're wasting your time in a supermarket.

£1.65 for half a kilo of fish:

Its good stuff as well, I just discovered it the other day.

More cheap fish (tuna)

Cheap steak:

And cheap does not mean low quality. Thats all solid reasonably whole food. Its only more expensive if you dont buy the value brand and I can safely say from experience that a massive chunk of the "everyday value" stuff is the exact same as the brand name stuff. Same goes for Asdas smart price products.
