Apple iTunes sales in decline

Ive never spent a penny on iTunes as the software is awful. Until Apple improve and fix it I'm staying well clear.

I continue to find it incredible that someone on a computer overclocking forum can't use iTunes. The latest version is about as stable and easy to use as any other piece of software.

Iv'e not seen any good reviews on there products since he died.

Almost all of the products released since then have got rave reviews...

And continue to do so, new iPhones included. They're pretty much hailed as the best phone you can buy, with personal preference dictating it for the most part. There are many great Android alternatives too.

Apple bought Beats for this reason, it wasn't for the headphones, but for Beats Music, which is a streaming service. We'll likely see it integrated into iTunes Match or similar quite soon.

Having said all that, I don't use iTunes to buy/download music, never have.

I read recently that Android is now officially the most popular phone O/S. That only happened quite recently. What surprised me is how long Apple was able to hold off Android given that iOS isn't used (AFAIK) on 3rd party devices; ergo... Apple shift a hell of a lot of phones. I think something like half the company's revenue comes from iPhone.

Thats surprising Lucid, i understood they had been ahead for a while but obviously as you say the range of Android phones from cheap budget up to premium models.

Think i've only ever bought one album from iTunes

I've been using Bandcamp for about a year now as it gives you the option of high bitrate audio files plus some of the music is pay what you want

Likewise. It's weak it's only 256kbps. I prefer purchasing CD's.

I'd be surprised if people's reaction to 256Kbps AAC audio is based on actually listening to it as opposed to assuming that because it's compressed that makes it bad.

People who build collections use lossless which apple still don't offer. People who don't care about quality and need it for portable devices, go for streaming or cheaper sources.
0.99p per song is way too steep, when physical albums cost £6 - £7 quid and come with downloadable option for free.

Recent changes in iTunes software damaged coherent collection building (compared to work the dev team did for years when Jobs was still alive). Yosemite version iTunes even removed most options to edit metadata for entire albums or artists. It's massive inconvenience.

It will continue declining, unless they go back to the roots and bring back power user options.

I agree

Itunes is to expensive for a average consumer where saving money pays the bills

Itunes currently a terrible place for power users

I think live streaming is going to kill off charged for downloads, as those not interested in making a collection will be well provided for at a lower monthly cost. Not that use either….. (except FLAC downloads off the Linn site)
Downloading and Streaming is seeing off CD’s ever more so, that leaves vinyl as the “collectors” medium. Which it does best, larger, tactile, retro, cool.. and can sound the best !!
I’ve never understood the point of buying from iTunes, an album costs the same as your local supermarket or favourite eSeller charges for the CD, which isn’t in a lossy format, comes with a booklet, acts as hard copy backup can be lent or swapped with friends and family and played on more kit…… Oh if ripped gives a file better than the iTunes purchase, with more compatibility if required.

I’ve just bought CD’s and ripped to FLAC for the NAS drive… or ripped again on a Mac to feed iTunes and my phone & pad.
Though I have bought more vinyl this year than the last 10 combined...

Re the Apple debate, I was a late convert, bought an Ipad2 when it came out, as a remote control for my Hi-Fi…
For me it’s two reasons, one is normally the nicest made kit in terms of feel and robustness… “Luxury” ? (iPad still the nicest tablet, and the Macbook Air is stunning bit of kit)
Second Apple might not do as many things, but it does what you need in a simple no fuss reliable way… in a “Less is more” way.
Your life isn’t taken over by learning how to do things and fiddling with options and controls. You can just get on and use it , or just put it in your pocket till you need it….Maybe an age thing but it bores me to have to spend hours setting up new tech, just want to use it and have a life !
Can’t deny it’s expensive, accessories being the best example, every lead etc, 25 quid… because they won’t supply a built in socket !....
