Nvidia to reveal GTX970+980 with 8GB soon.

They also mention 8 GB R9 290X cards. I could have sworn OCUK has been selling those for quite some time...

They use to sell a single R9 290X with 8GB and that was the Sapphire Vapor-X.

OcUK now has reference style 8GB 290X, PCS 8GB 290X and more of the Sapphire Vapor X 290Xs.

Not even that. Have 8GB of vram isn't going to help with 4K unless Nvidia sort out the performance of SLI scaling beyond 2 cards for the 970/980...

They will sort it and if we looked at things like that, we would never buy a GPU. They all have some bug that needs sorting and it isn't just the 980/970, my scaling has been poor on these latest drivers but older ones it is very good.

By the way you have bought a Swift and sold your 4K Samsung right? I still can't help but to think it is too soon adapt 4K considering the current GPU performance. Think most people have agreed that it would be more sensible to wait for at least 20nm GPUs cards available before jumping onto the 4K wagon...

I think 8gb 980s would be a marketing mistake as it would put them up against cheaper 8gb 290Xs @4K and in multi GPU situations at that resolution the AMD cards come out on top more often than not.

I know most people won't be using 4K anytime soon but they still read the reviews.

Im glad i waited 4GB is a crapy deal compared to the 780ti. Especially when 780Ti has a free game. Finally now i can buy something without being overly paranoid about memory., Skyrm mods and LOTR on Ultra textures without hitches it what is wanted and the ability to use DSR.

Hopefully something in the next few weeks im already going to miss the launch of wow.

If single 970's or 980's were good enough for 4k gaming then I'd be annoyed, but there not, SLI is a must for decent frame rates at 4K.

And even though I'll be buying a second (4GB) Asus Strix next month, I will still only be using them to game at 1440p, which more often that not will be the sweet spot for maximum in game settings with a guaranteed 50-60fps in just about any game coming for the next 12-18mths.

4K looks amazing, but it's going to take another generation or two for GPU's to catch up with it, so I'll worry about 8GB Vram then and not before.

Yer I did and I miss 4K but G-Sync makes up for it. I think we are a long way off for a single card to cope at 4K in truth and I mean years but SLI will do just fine (when scaling is good).

Mind you, slight tangent but as you asked, I am seriously tempted by this

Still unknown whether that is just poor sli scaling due to a fixable driver issue atm. In single card they are much of a muchness at 4k from what I remember.

SLI scaling is very good with the cards @1080p but drops off as the resolution increases.

Single card performance also drops off as the resolution increases.

I don't think it is a driver problem.

I think I beat the upgrade bug !

I saw news of 8GB versions of the 980 and didn't flinch or even think "Gotta sell my 980's for the extra 4GB, Just gimme 1 hit of 4gees man, You know I'm good for it" :p

But I did just sell my 3rd 980 as I prefer 2 way SLI, Even numbers FTW :D

I know it is a silly question but does the 970 or 980 PCBs have anywhere to put another 4gb of VRAM.

If it means a PCB redesign this could throw a different light on the story.

Thank you Gregster, just found my next monitor!!! An excellent upgrade from my ZR30w

Yer I like it and PCM2 has seen it in person and I believe he was impressed, so that is good enough for me. I will have to wait till after Chrimbo but I seriously want that.
