Zoe Quinn: GamerGate must be condemned

She was pretty decent to look at the time it happened, all the weight piled on straight after

What..? She's been a hag the entire time. But Quinn is actually not that relevant to the broader GG movement. The issue which really ignited the movement was the 11 'Gamers are dead' articles where the gaming press launched a scathing attack on their consumers. Then, they claimed all those upset were 'cis white males' despite the #notyourshield hashtag proving otherwise.

What we have now is basically a culture war between gamers and the gender-feminist Tumblr crowd. Its fascinating to watch.

Oh +1 on this,

Also on a related matter, i hate how feminists are trying to stop (and are somewhat successful) hot females being portrayed in video games. I like looking at big bwebs ok???

Exactly.

And - you never see feminists (or any boys/men) complaining about the overly muscled males which are in no way a true representation of the British 14-30 age group in the games.

The whole thing is a few mental feminists boosting their egos and actually highlighting nothing of worth in the process. Whilst I can sympathise with Quinn about the trolling you can not then turn around and say 'i did nothing wrong' when the evidence is out their in plain sight.
sarkeesian is an embarrassment and the stirs the pot more so then eveyone else combined.

and you know the crazy thing - NONE OF IT IS ABOUT GAMES ANYMORE.

How are the feminists defending this? She used her sexuality to further her own gain and they're defending her for that? Surely that goes against everything feminist? Are they arguing that she had to do that because it's a male-dominated industry or some other lame excuse?

Actually, feminists are against such promotion of male masculinity - it's just as unhelpful to their cause as the excessive feminisation of women.

The muscles in video games are there to appeal to men, anyway. For some reason, lots of people find it aspirational.

I've not seen any evidence that this is the case. Whatever she's done (or not done) I hope we all agree that bullying and harassment to the extent that three women felt unsafe in their own homes is completely unjustifiable.

This.

Zoe Quinn had sex with 5 guys in order to get good reviews on her absolutely awful "game" depression quest. However all news media are on her side.

For some reason loads of feminists got involved now because nobody was paying attention to them...

That's been thoroughly debunked. She never slept with journalists in exchange for good reviews.

But, yeah, this is about ethics in journalism.

I have not paid a great deal of attention to this but have read some articles and below seem some of the pertinent issues.

People say bad things on line - People by nature do. They also do in real life behind your back. Get over it

People make threats on line? Not acceptable. Nor would it be in real life. They should be punished by law

Online gaming sites MUST speak out about this. No-one MUST do anything. It is up to them what they report which will be based on their readers interest. If as a reader you don't feel their content represents your interests, don't go there and feel free to make your opinion known.

Someone slept with reviewers to get favourable reviews. Welcome to the real world where sex is used for personal gain. Why would one industry be different? No, its not ethical but really, did thousands flock out to buy this game, misled by reviews, and feel hard done by because they would not have bought it otherwise?

Women are portrayed as sexual objects in games. On the whole this is largely true. As they are in certain movie generes including mainstream and TV and in music. This is because it sells and that is because it is what the consumer wants. If you don't like it feel free to produce or consume an alternative. It took a long time for the independent, non-sexualised woman to become popular in music but they are now

This is an important feminist issue and no one is listening. That is because they are not interested. Get over it. Stuffing it down peoples throat won't make them any more interested. I'll buy a game because I think I will enjoy playing it. The portrayal of any female characters in it has no bearing on my decision. Neither has the portrayal of male characters, ethnic groups, religions, dogs, their favourite graphic card or phone etc. If it bothers you, don't buy it. Feel free to tell people this but don't be upset when they don't care.

Having never heard of her, I googled her. Clicked on images and saw some boobies and camel toe. Great. Still don't know who she is.

I keep hearing stuff about this, is there a TLDR version about the whole thing as I don't have a clue what is going on.

Although I agree that harassment in the true sense of the word is unacceptable, I think that its clear the women at the centre of this story are profiteering from the exposure.

None of them have achieved anything of note professionally and now they are being thrust into the limelight. Furthermore, if there was a credible threat, why would they advertise it? Most guidance on these issues says DO NOT make it public.

Oh I wasn't saying it is justifiable in the slightest, I'm wholly against it. Not mentioning it in my post doesn't mean I agree with it, I was more making a comment about the feminists supporting her when she's done something that doesn't sound like it supports feminism at all. I don't know the timeline of events. I share the opinion of others that it isn't really of interest to me and the harassment and bullying should never happen, but she also shouldn't have acted like she'd done nothing wrong when she slept with 5 journalists for her own gain.
