Hi all,

Pretty sure this has been answered at some point, especially with all the ebay/paypal threads but cant find what I need.

Basically I have someone buying something off of me, not through ebay, they want to send me the payment through paypal because of the assurances it offers, he is also arranging courier to collect.

does this sound ok to you? What could go wrong?

He could claim the item was never delivered / faulty, and initiate a chargeback.

I think having him pay as a gift solves this, but not certain on that (plus its technically lying).

This does sound a bit dodgy. If they arrange the courier/collection, then would you have any way to prove that delivery had been made?

If not, they just file a dispute with paypal saying item not received, you can't prove otherwise and paypal refunds the money.

I assume getting proof of collection from me will solve this?

Also item sold as not sure if working.

I honestly don't know.

Assuming it is a professional courier, then you would sign to say it is collected, and you'd also get given tracking details to show when delivered?

In that case, you'd probably be ok.

If, on the other hand, his 'mate' in a van turns up to collect, then it could be a scam and my previous post would probably still apply.

It's easy to be overly paranoid about scammers, so I certainly wouldn't assume that he's not genuine. But it's wise to be aware of things to watch out for.
