MSI GS70 2PE Fan Issue - 870M

So for some reason the fan on the left side of my GS70 has been playing up for a while and will speed up until it's really loud and then suddenly just stop. This only happens in gaming (especially bf4) and also results in weird framerate spikes. I'm assuming the left side is the GPU side so i've tried underclocking the GPU to resolve it but still nothing.

My version is the GTX870m

Anyone else had similar issues and know how to fix it? I'm studying abroad atm so sending it in for repair isn't really an option until I get back home.

We offer a two year global warranty. I would suggest RMA and the local service agent will repair on collect and return basis

What country Are you in at the moment

I'm in Canada but i'll be back in the UK on December 2. Getting sick of RMAing laptops haha.

Is there any other workaround you know of?

Have a look at doing a BIOS and EC firmware update for your notebook. My GT70 had similar behaviour previously but didn't suffer the problem you have.

Thanks Senture. I think I will give that a go. I tried updating the VBIOS but it seemed to already be up to date.

I've updated the BIOS, EC Firmware and VBIOS now and the issue actually got worse. I guess it's going to have to be an RMA when I get back home. Pretty annoying since I came to MSI to get away from my RMAing past

Very sorry to hear about that. Feel bad for suggesting them but I guess it really shows the laptop needs to go off for RMA

Been tweaking for the last few days. Reinstalled Windows 8 completely and left drivers at the reference ones. Seems to have brought me back to the way it was but the fan still ramps up to 100% and then turns off.

Well i'm heading home in 3 weeks. Don't want to send it off and then not get it back before I return. Also got a lot of Uni work to do right now so losing my laptop for even a week would be a big problem.
