Ok atm i have crossfire 280x's but have decided i'm giving the mrs one of them and selling the other, the thing is,she already has my 7970 ghz vapor-x which i said to her is just as good a card as the 280x pretty much.

Atm i play at 1080, but i would like to upgrade either to a 2560 monitor or even 120/144 hz monitor(undecided as yet)

The cards i like the look of are these, but any other recommendations would be great

or should i put my foot down and just stick with what i have :S as i'm only really doing it for her benefit.although a new card would be nice.

Stick with the 280x crossfire, its still faster than any of the single cards even at 1400p, i sold my 7970 crossfire cheep and bought a few cards and ended up no better off really

Give her a 280X, keep yours. Then when you upgrade to 1440p or 144Hz then grab a 970 and win :) 1080p performance with a 280X should still be decent enough

This ^

From what I've read the 280x crossfire is still a power house and fights with the best of them :D

Use the money for a new 1440p monitor!
Gets dissaproving grunt from the mrs

EDIT:I'm trying to convince her that her 7970ghz edition is just as good as my 280x's lol, i've shown her the charts on anandtech...they speak for themselves.
Should never have introduced her to pc gaming lol.

Just had a brainwave, swap one of your 280x for her 7970 and xfire the 280x and 7970, then shes happy she has a new gpu and you buy the 1400p monitor with her blessing, its a win win

I'd go for the Geforce 970 personally. I'd probably just go for a non-overclocked on for £250 though? Don't see a compelling reason to spend £70 more on the pre-overclocked version with a different cooling fan?

Just flash the 280X Vapor-X BIOS onto the 7970 Vapor-X and tell her you got her a new card :)

The GTX980 is faster but the isn't much in it, hardly worth the cost of an upgrade.

The reviews ive read puts a 7990 ahead of the gtx 980 at 1400p and 7990 is just 280x xfire on a stick,

really appreciate all the feedback guys :)
i think i've finally convinced her kinda that there will be no difference to her gaming, even though mines are the newer cards, i think it's just because they are newer and shinier that she wants one lol.

I blame dragon age inquisition forums for all this, as she's been reading too many new pc threads haha.

ok, off to the monitor section now to find a goodie for a similar price i would have spent on a card. hmmm 120/144 or 2560 res :S decisions decisions.

i want the 120 hz as i played on hers and noticed a big difference when playing fps, very smooth and very responsive, definitely improved my game a bit, but on the other hand i do fancy 2560 loveliness :( and before anyone recommends the rog, as much as i drool over it, it is way too pricey for me.

thanks again for the feedback peeps :)
