As the title suggests, I'm looking for games with an epic atmosphere that are also controller friendly. I've just moved into a new place and I got my self a moving in gift. Upgraded my speaker and amp (Yamaha RX-V675 and Q Acoustic 2000i 5.1 set for those interested). I go through HDMI for video and audio via my 780 GTX to my amp which passes both audio and video to the speakers and my 50" plasma (also mounted) at 1080p. The audio is in the form of a 5.1 PCM signal from the PC.

I've finally got all my speakers mounted on some lovely wall brackets and it all setup. Now I just need to play some games to truly give the sound system a test...

Hmm.

Combo of visuals + sound, I'd say X:Terran Conflict with a load of mods, but not really controller friendly. Dishonored would benefit from the 'immersive' feeling a lot I'd say.

All lights off -> Alien: Isolation would seem to be a good bet.

I'm not good at scary games lol, my new place is in the middle of the sticks also, so no doubt I'll freak my self out haha.

Limbo is extremely atmospheric IMO. Not scary either

FEAR has great atmosphere too. But is a bit scary (though I got through it ok, and I can't usually handle scary games - it was more creepy than outright terrifying)

Edit:
And Spate is great for atmosphere. Amazing, in fact

X3: Terran Conflict / Albion Prelude (mainly because of the music, but the feeling of floating/flying around in space is also cool)

Deus Ex Human Revolution: The music + the cities (prob my favourite modern singleplayer rpg so far)

Battlefield with Wartapes.

Wartapes is awful, I remember testing it. Awful enhancement. Really messes up explosions. Also, your footsteps become the same noise level as your gun firing... Personal preference though I guess.

X3: Terran Conflict, is this 360 controller friendly now then? And just how friendly?

I've not tried it on controller but on the albion prelude steam store page it says there is controller support and on loading screens it shows a xbox 360 controller with the button mappings.

I would think using a controller would limit some stuff, also it's got a huge learning curve :(

I think the terran war pack (albion prelude + terran conflict) has been £5 in steam sales.
The prices of it on steam atm seem expensive for such an old game :(

Just a few.

-Metro 2033 and Last Light.
-Half Life 1, Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
-Battlefield: Bad Company 2 with War Tapes.
-Star Wars: Dark Forces 2.
