According to another tech site. Finally, I dont see why it took them so long

Nvidia will be launching an upgraded 8GB version of its Geforce GTX 980 GM204 Maxwell card this late November or early December. This information comes from Hermitage Akihabara, a highly reliable source which has proved very accurate in the past when speculating on future Nvidia releases. Nvidia’s GTX 980 8GB will be expected to further increase the market demand for its Maxwell-fueled graphics cards, not that the current GTX 970 and GTX 980 models were not selling in high volumes. The upcoming GTX 980 8GB will feature the usual GDDR5 memory interface, and the same bus width of 256 bit, although a 384 bit was initially expected.

This may come in response to the scheduled re-launch of the AMD Radeon R9 290X, which is also getting a 8GB frame-buffer upgrade, as AMD gave the go ahead to Club3D, PowerColor, Sapphire and more recently, MSI, to build their own 8GB versions of the Radeon R9 290X. The “bumped up” R9 290X will feature the same GDDR5 memory, but will have an obvious advantage in the bus width department, packing an impressive 512 bit bus. With this massive 8GB of VRAM, both Nvidia and AMD are aiming to deliver two high-end graphics cards able to support 4K gaming in high settings. Extreme full-scene antialiasing is one example that comes to mind, and will most likely be achievable thanks to this additional amount of GDDR5 memory. Perhaps, many gamers will regard the upcoming GTX 980 8GB as a little bit over the top for what they need at the moment, but an extra amount of VRAM will always have its benefits.

It is very possible that both GTX 980 8GB and Radeon R9 290X 8GB will see light out of the box later this month and it would be quite interesting to assess their performance by stacking them head to head. Surely the GTX 980 8GB will get a post release OC version which might overpower the GTX Titan Black 6GB when rendering UHD resolutions, where the extra amount of VRAM will make a difference. With that in mind, we are eagerly waiting to see what the upcoming GTX 980 8GB is capable of.

Will probably be £100 more than the equivalent 4gb 980 models and unless you're at 4k I wouldn't be too worried if you bought a 980 on release. You would probably have been told or known 4gb wasn't enough for 4k anyway.

Please make it happen before iNext.. !
As nice as the Sapphire 290x 8GB's look, these seem a better buy  Provided they arent titan priced lol

I wouldn't take this as legit as Gibbo stated he's talked with nvidia and they said they have no plans on making 8gb cards. Also it would hurt thier current 900 series sales as memory atm is scarce so for every 1 8gb card they could use the memory for 2 4gb cards. They don't see the point. Also AMD 290x cards would still be better at 4k res so there is little incentive for them to do this.

I ask NVIDIA this question everyday as we want 8GB versions like crazy here, so far they keep saying no.

The moment they say different I will have product online up for pre-order, but right now no green light from NVidia.

P.S. I have showed NVIDIA this article, they say it is false!

I'd be surprised if they surfaced, I'd be even more surprised if they arrive with an increased 384bit-bus.

Bus increase won't happen, as that would then be a different product.

All the board partners can change is clock speeds within NVIDIA limits and memory capacity on the board, again within NVIDIA limits.

So the bus will remain unchanged on GTX 980.

Wouldn't 8GB at 256bit bus be a bit pointless to a certain extent? Surely they would be better holding off for full fat (ti) Maxwell with 384 bit bus?

Yep that's why I'd be more surprised, its just not going to happen.

8gb card is coming, but it won't be on 980. It'll be a new card all together.

It would simply make most sense NVIDIA release a Titan 2 with incredible power and 8GB of RAM and price it £699-£799, expensive but it would sell pretty insane.

Have a 980Ti 4GB around £599 and then after those two have being released look at 980 8GB, which if they do it that way you've got a few months.

NVIDIA are about selling GPU's, making 8GB 980 means they sell less GPU's. ;)
