970 Asus Strix or MSI Gamer?

Yeah, that seems a logical chain of thought. Before I made the thread, I was pretty much set on the Msi. Now I'm leaning towards the gigabyte. Just want a fully working, fast, quiet gpu with good RMA if required :D

So now, I'm between the Asus and the gigabyte. In all honesty, I prefer the looks of the Asus. I know they will pretty much perform identical but what about fan noise? Much the same?

My friend has the MSI 970, his runs flawlessly (so far at least) - no coil whine, no fan issues, stays cool under load, runs everything like a dream...

Myself - was considering the MSI & Gig G1. After a few reviews and whatnot I'm far leaning to the G1 but the MSI is still a contender for me. The G1 has better OC-ability compared to the MSI and Strix b/c of the manufacturers power limit (so I've read) as well as having better cooling and a backplate (which I feel MSI should really address too).

Basically, my verdict - Gigabyte G1 Gaming (I hope I don't get a slap on the wrist for this but) I encourage you to look around for prices because of this: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18632637. Check the terms first though, basically needs to be a UK supplier and have the card IN-STOCK then OC will price match once you flag it with Gibbo directly on that thread (if not mistaken!)

It may work fine, my MSI works fine :)

But if it does cause issues there is no MSI UK and you'll be waiting for a very long time, just not worth the risk as a new buyer

Hope so :D

According to the graphics warranty thread, MSI is handled by OCUK and usually takes 10-28 days. I can live with that tbh.

Ahh man I was pretty much decided on getting the MSI but now I'm not so sure it will be a good idea.

I've just set up a RMA for my ridiculously hot and loud (Fans & ridiculous coil whine) on my Inno 3d 970. To kind of show how bad this is I got it on the silly low Halloween price of £239 and still want to send it back.

I want a card that will run cool and quiet and without any hassle so does this just leave the gigabyte card?

I'll hopefully tell you tomorrow haha. I think all cards have cases of failings in one way or another. You should also look at the Asus Strixx as until the very last minute, I was going for that. Then changed my mind as I love the look of the MSI (silly reason i know :D)

Sure it was techpowerup. I'll see if i can find the link when i get a wee minute. Sure it was 312mm though. Think I could have maybe squeezed it in but it would have meant a bit of rearranging that i couldn't be bothered with :D

I have an MSI 970,no coil whine,no fan issues. Boosts to 1329mhz out of the box.

Oc'ed it rock solid stable 1506mhz boost clock and 8000mhz mem on stock volts.110% limit. At these clocks it tickles the power limit in firestrike, any higher it will occasionally throttle the clocks back in certain parts of the bench as it goes over 110% power draw.
Rarely goes past 100% power draw while gaming tho,so it still has tiny bit more headroom on stock bios.

Crazy good card

Cheers mate, looking forward to tomorrow now for a wee bit of a play around with it.

Given the choices given by OP I'd take the Asus, considering the MSI has reported fan issues. Also that Asus cooler is immense

I chose between Asus and msi as the fans don't rotate when just browsing/low use. Asus was out of stock and the msi wasn't.

I don't have coil whine and fans are ok. What's the problem with them? Surely if they fail it's an excuse to water cool

From what i've read, the MSI keeps the card slightly cooler and the ASUS has a problem with the gpu sagging. I chose the one which i preffered the look off and also had the better RMA.
