Hi there

I am very proud to say that OcUK is the only UK company with stock of 8GB 290X and also has the largest range of 8GB cards available compared to our competitors who mostly have zero range. :D

Sapphire Radeon R9 290X Vapor-X OC 8192MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **OcUK WorldWide Exclusive** @ £379.99 inc VAT

GX-353-SP_400.jpg

OcUK has a worldwide exclusive on the only 8GB 290X in existence, but this is not any 290X it's a highly fine tuned machine being the Vapor-X edition with near silent cooling solution. Running with a 1060MHz core clock and with memory clocked at 5600MHz makes this card absolutely perfect for a 4K setup, even more so with a pair or three of these in Crossfire. That means you could play games like Skyrim with expansion packs at 4k resolution and still not run out of VRAM.

Based on the award-winning Graphics Core Next (GCN) architecture from AMD with 2816 Stream Processors, the SAPPHIRE R9 290X Vapor-X is an Overclocked edition which boasts 8GB of the latest GDDR5 memory running at 1400 MHz (5.60GB/s effective) and high speed engine clocks of 1060MHz.

SAPPHIRE’s innovative Vapor-X cooling technology allows products to run not only cooler but also much quieter. A Vapor-X product means a virtually silent gaming experience and more headroom to explore performance tweaking!

Choke is an important component of the graphics card. By working with the component engineer, Sapphire’s patent pending choke is 10% cooler and offers 25% more power efficiency than a normal choke. The graphics card will be more reliable and save energy.

Improved reliability and better overclocking are possible by using only high-polymer, aluminum capacitors which posses far superior characteristics than regular aluminum capacitor for a longer product life. When operational temperatures drop by 20°C, the product life span is extended by a factor of ten, when the operational temperature increases by 20°C, the product life span only decreases by 10%.

Along the edge of the card the PCB is extended and one of the copper layers left exposed. An additional heatsink mounted directly to this copper layer allows heat absorbed into the PCB from the GPU and other components to be transferred to the heatsink and cooled by the airflow. This feature alone can reduce core temperature by 2 degree C.

OcUK owning the market yet again! :)
The Sapphire Vapor-X is IN STOCK and a great deal as it comes with four games making it even better value for money.

Stunning

If I was running 4k I would easy buy the MSI card again.

Just the one?

It's actually a question I'm hoping AMDMatt might be ablke to answer once he has his cards, how many cards do you need to have the grunt to need 8GB?

Given the 2.5/3 slot coolers on some of these cards you'd hope the answer is 2, but in myu experience 2 x 290s aren't gonna cut it at 4K (they'll be fine in some games, I run some at 4K on 1 card because of glitches when using crossfire @ 4K).

Does the Powercolor have glue applied to the coils like their other card? If so, that'd be my choice out of those :)

You don't need matt, as you already know, it's going to be 3 or more to play on settings that use 4 GB or more@4K-but will they have working CrossFire/SLi support?

Interesting fact, I've owned 9 290X cards and three 290P cards and not one of them has had coil whine.

Two cards could use more than 4GB currently under Mantle in BF4 and Thief at max settings and keep playable fps. Other games which will use more than 4gb and keep playable fps (maybe not maximum settings though) at 4K are under DX11 in Watchdogs and Shadow Of Mordor.

I've owned 4 MSI 290x (at different times), running on a 1000W Superflower PSU, each one had coil whine :)

It's nice that Powercolor have gone that extra mile and applied glue to their coils, must have been a reason why they did this.

I'll test Watchdogs at 4K with a pair of Titans and see how much Vram it uses.

Interesting fact, I've owned only one 290X and it whined like a ***** :p

@Matt, cool, never took Mantle vram usage into consideration-can always fall back to that other api.:p

Interesting fact no 2. gibbo got special custom coil whine free 970's built to order due to 9 series coil whine-it's the undisputed coil whine heavyweight champion of the world.:p

Vendors take requests from OCUK?

Any chance of requesting an HDMI 2.0 variant, or is that impossible on the 290 series? :(

But I'm using 290s not 290Xs. Not a big difference, but maybe enough?

I didn't think BF4 was quite playable @ 4K with x 290s. It was close but kept dropping below 60fps, in some cases quite a lot below (for a second or 2). If a game doesn't hold 55-60fps then I notice it enough to make a game unplayable. Maybe that's from getting used to 120Hz monitors.

But it would be interesting to see which games than need more than 4GB can be run on 2 or 3 cards (I think we can probably discount 1 card configs) and hold a (close to) 60fps average.

EDIT:
As far as coil whine goes, I've not noticed any with my 290s. Mind you next door have been tearing out and installing a new kitchen and I can't hear that over the 290 fans either! (Reference coolers)

Interesting fact no 3. Gibbo don't miss a trick. ;)

The only trick he did miss out on though, was supplying a decent Psu bundle for those who suffer from it due to their **** 10 year old Psu's :p

would any of the custom cooler versions here be suitable for 2 card xfire or is the ref cooler the best bet for temps/noise/stopping throttling?

The MSI is probably the best best for crossfire due to the 2-slot cooler. Although you'd still probably need good air flow in your case.

I think MJFrosty (Silicone_Scone? or whatever he's called now) had 2 of the Vapor-X card in a Rampage IV Extreme board, which has about the best spacing you're likely to get and still found that the heat could be a problem. I'd guess the PCS+ would be similar.

which would you say was the best 290x youve owned? performane, cool, quietness wise?

MSI 290X Lightning, Vapour-X, Tri-X. Powercolor PCS would have been right up there but it uses Elpida mems. Everything else about it is top notch though. All cool and quiet cards.
