Cheap replacment HID bulbs?

After being disappointed that my expensive PHILIPS 85122+(not fake) didn't live up to the hype, I sold them at a loss on ebay and I bought a pair of Chinese branded £12 ones from ebay and they are perfectly fine, even 2 years later.

I'd only ever buy proper Osram or Phillips etc, not worth the saving to sling some cheap bulbs in.

I intend to replace my D1S's with Osram Night Breaker Unlimited's when the time comes and i can be bothered to remove the bumper.

Have a look at the Osram CBIs. I think I'm going to replace my D1S's with them at some point. They're pretty much the best bulbs you can buy and, despite the name and colour temperature (5k) you get a pure white light with no 'blue' which is about as close to daylight as you can get, and an extremely good light output and throw. I believe they're the same bulbs used by BMW and Mercedes in their recent models.

I'm not quite ready to spend £115 on a set of bulbs yet though... :o
 
I've fitted a fair few "cheap" sets... it's not so much the bulb that gives the problem but the driver/Ignitor pack..

Probably won't be genuine at that price if they're the same bulb. Can't find them myself though - link?

£115 seems cheap from what I can tell after pricing some up for mine. Are D2S generally more expensive?
 
D2S bulbs are generally cheaper than D1S because D1S have the igniter built in to the bulb housing and are generally a newer and 'better' technology.

That's why the D1S Osram CBI bulbs cost more than the D2S versions that Sin Chase linked to. For yours, they're the ones to go for.
 
I've got the ones Sin Chase linked to and have been running them for nearly 2 years now.

They are a nice white colour - no blue or orange tint. As for brightness they're ok but not as good as what I've seen on some newer cars. The "extra 20%" seems to be in direction rather than brightness - they are very wide angle.

I paid £118 at the time and if they were at the same price now I'd say just go for the Philips but at the current price they are probably worth it.
 
Thought I would update this as I decided to follow some of the advice here and throw £130 at a set of Osram CBI's, seem a slightly warm white colour at the moment but I understand this will change.

Light output blows the old bulbs out of the water, I just drove to my dads with them and was half expecting to get a few flashes from people coming the other way but got none so all good.

Overall very happy, should be the last set of bulbs my 11 year old Mondeo sees before it goes to the great scrapyard in the sky!
