Upgraded from 480 to 970 not amazed :-S

Well i upgraded the 480 today to a 970 G1 also taking a G1 Z97 sniper mobo and a 4690k, Just played arma everything on ultra 20-30 FPS ..... was getting that on very high on my old rig. Only difference is my 2500k was overclocked this is stock at the moment but was expecting a much bigger improvement that what i have got. what FPS should i get Arma 3 online
 
Well ultra and very high are different. Atleast compare like for like.

Drop the draw distance down. You can't see it all anyway.

Also read arma is quite cpu thirsty as well. Don't blame the it all on the card
 
I think you may have said it yourself, you can only be sure on a performance gain if nothing else has changed such as your cpu clock speed. It might be that your CPU is a bottleneck therefore the game cannot run any faster, no matter if you put the 480 in or even a 980. Think I heard somewhere that the cpu utilisation on arma games is not good, which would result in the cpu being a bottleneck

Arma 3 really is not the best engine for compare..

Its very CPU heavy and online is worse as its all server side so if server load is heavy your fps will drop.
 
cheers guys, TBH the cpu is running 1ghz slower but stock cooler atm :(

Will try it overclocked when got a new cooler. brand new windows install and latest drivers.

Only odd thing SM BUS controller is in device manager as exclamation mark ?
 
Arma is the worst for comparing a new GPU, it's really CPU taxing. Draw distance is a big factor on it too. As already said, drop it down a bit.

Have you got any old benchmarks recorded? Comparing the scores will show the difference in cards. 3D mark will also show specific GPU/CPU scores too.

I take it you've updated all Bios and driver revisions for your new kit?
