Accident at work advice

You should get that arm in a sling pronto and get on the phone to the accident helpline.

Just make sure you don't get videoed working out at the gym :-)

If I claimed for every accident or injury I sustained at work I would be very rich by now. I have at least 3 scars from various sharp parts of aircraft.

Man up and move on. Apparently chicks love scars :)

So you don't think there are people who should be able to claim for any reason?
I know you didn't say that but where do you draw the line?

I burnt myself at work last week

I think the line is drawn where "I" is used. I burnt myself, I tripped over, I cut a finger off using something I know is unsafe.

People need to take responsibility for their own actions and we need to stop rewarding stupidity.

However, something happening to you outside of your control is a different matter. Forklift drops something on you, claim, something electricutes you because its faulty and you weren't aware, claim. Add that to when an injury is sufficient enough to alter someones life then in my opinion, that's all valid.

I have a little burn on my arm...sorry but no. Man up and don't do it again.

Unless the burn is massively disfiguring, any payout would likely be completely not worth the hassle, stress and subsequent fallout with the employer in my opinion.

Unless the scar looks like a bad tattoo of Cherrie Blair, having a mark on the inside of the elbow isn't exactly going to impact your life.

As to whether you should claim, there was definitely pain and suffering and now a permanent disfigurement, so it seems perfectly reasonable to sue, if the injury was caused by the employers negligence I would sue them to punish them if nothing else.

jumping on the bandwagon here.

I slipped and fell on a wet floor, with no signs to warn about the floor, the floor was reported as unsuitable for wet mopping in the cleaning handbook.

I had a concussion, post concussion syndrome and have since developed a trauma related cataract in one eye.

work were very understanding - 3 weeks off and time for follow up hospital visits. BUT they then tried to get me to sign a document of final settlement covering my car parking costs at the hospital/opticians of £20.

I have lasting damage to one eye (I only notice it when exhausted not just a bit tired)

Is that worth following up?

This is precisely why we have systems in place to compensate people, a world away from the OP's 'I slightly burnt myself and have had a mark on my elbow for a week now, it hasn't impacted my life in any way but reckon I can claim?'.

I would say you should/could probably claim yes, it's left you with a permanent eye problem, you just need to asses what impact it has had on your life.

that, yes.
a small burn on your elbow that you only made a week ago and made a 'scar' - no.

Did you know pipe was hot even though without sticker? If so don't be daft. If not then yeah fair claim.

I can't go into details but I can think of two cases that I dealt with this last year where the staff members owned up to doing things that they shouldn't be doing but still got compensated :( "Yes I know there were signs up telling me how to do it but I didn't follow them and hurt myself" :(

Is that worth following up?

100%

If what you say is 100% true then don't deal with a 'No Win No Fee' Solicitor.
