Thanks to the already well documented failings of Urban Forest Timber Buildings, my shed that is less than a year old is leaking like a sieve at the roof.

Has anyone used anything other than shed felt when covering their shed roof?
I have seen some UV resistant PVC rolls that will allegedly outlive the shed itself and are very well priced against typical good quality roofing felt and wondered if anyone else has done anything like this. Perhaps there is something else I could be looking at?

And just to reiterate for anyone out there in google land, that's Urban Forest Timber Buildings!

I had this paintable tar stuff, smelled like petrol but was very thick like erm . . . tar. I painted that on the roof before I put the felt down and then painted on the top of the felt with it too. I haven't had any leaks.

I think the heavy duty PVC stuff works quite well. The sort of material they use on curtain-sider lorries. Chap who live just down the road did his shed roof with it and the side that takes all the weather and it's been on a few years and still looks presentable.

The PVC is looking quite promising. Had a price back and its very competitive against conventional felt. Think it might be worth seeing sample to get an idea of how durable it really is.

The felt on my shed roof is starting to deteriorate, holes are appearing in places where it has come away from the felt nails. I think it doesn't help with it being nailed to T&G cladding on the roof, so as the timber shrinks and expands across its grain it'll be moving the felt with it.

Will keep an eye on this thread for ideas on what to replace it with. I was thinking that rubber EPDM stuff, but not sure if it would work or not.

Buy a decent felt they should last 25 years I assume you were supplied some awful product.

In more ways than one....just in case somebody else asks 'where to buy a shed'......avoid Urban Forest Timber Buildings like the plague!

As for a decent felt, what should I be looking for. I have seen a few references to IKO felt, though have no idea if this is any better than B&Q value.

I'd just avoid anything from Homebase or B&Q they sell proper low quality nicely labelled junk, nothing I've bought from them has impressed me, go to a builders merchants and buy a roll. For the amount you need the difference in price will be minimal.

I was going to suggest Bauder but the GP can't buy it

Thanks, I'll nip down lunchtime tomorrow and see what they've got.
Just need a break from the wet stuff now.

My friend works for a company that makes UV cured fiberglass sheet material, its comes in rolls and is moist to the touch, you can cut it with scissors whilst its still damp but need an angle grinder to cut it once cured. its stuck down with a resin and once cured is completely waterproof.

I've built at sorts out of it including replacement roof panels (corrugated asbestos replacements).

Not sure if it's commercially available but its awesome stuff :)

FRP Prepreg, don't know where to get it in the UK though :(

Pond liner. The cheap 3 ply uv resistant stuff will do. I redid our 8x6 shed for £11.

Well, just went out to the shed and one side of felt has blown off completely! :(. I knew I should have sorted it in the summer.

Looking into something quick and cheap for now and pond liner seems like a good idea. How do you fix it in place? Is it durable to cats and birds walking about on it?

If I did go for mineral felt again, would it be ok to leave the pond liner under it as a double layer of protection? Or would it be better to glue the mineral felt to the T&G roof with bitumen roof felt adhesive?

EDIT: I have a roll of breathable roofing membrane I could patch it up with for now. Then get some decent felt in the summer as I have read its best to do it when warm. Theres some on ebay that says 3-4mm thick, so I think the stuff I got with the shed was just garbage. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROOFING-A...Ceilings_Walls_Roofing_ET&hash=item33966cc52d
