Audi A7 Bi turbo diesel, VS 535D and 640D

Does any body have any experience with these cars.

I am in the market for a premium brand, premium car. Needs to be diesel and high bhp to satisfy my speed requirements.

I love the looks of the A7. Infact love them. Its a lovely car. The sound of the v6 twin turbo is sublime.

Yet I like the 535D, lovely engine real nice cabin area. Just its another 5 series? there so common. I always like to be slightly different?

What do you guys think? The car will be used and sadly not facelift on the A7. So around one year old.

no experience with the 640 only that its lacking interior space.

In terms of being slightly different, I see far more 6 series than I do A7. But that may be because the 6 is a better car?

*official sales figures may prove otherwise, just going by my daily observations.
 
I've just bought a new 640d which is being delivered next weekend, until then I've been driving the dealers 14 plate demo. Depending on age and budget it might be worth looking at new as the current deals made it cheaper for me to buy that than a year old one.

I looked at the A7, liked it a fair bit, but the rear end is just ugly or out of proportion depending on how kind your being ;) Kit wise they are similar but the iDrive or at least the 4.2 iteration in the later cars is slightly more modern than the equivalent A7's. Found the ride in the 640d even on none adaptive setup to be slightly better as well, but the A7 has the hatchback and AWD which so for that its swings and roundabouts based on what your priorities are.

Looked at the 5 series and to be honest given the choice the 6 wins hands down on everything apart from rear leg room, and even then in the coupe its not that bad at all. If you do want the additional legroom then the 640d GC is the way to go, but personally I just found it just a bit too big, where the coupe is pretty much just right.

see to me the looks on the A7 are sublime in the right color.

The 640 is nice too but i dont think it matches this however the interior does, the stitched dash etc is very smart

 
Test drive all and go from there?
Not much to choose from objectively unless there's no HUD on the A7, in which case BMW!
Does the F10 xDrive exist in the UK?
 
Its fine from the side or front but the back looks stupud - the Porsche looks stupid from the side but good back or front.....plus it's a Porsche - can see why it is worth looking at
 
It's just the rear end on the a7 that to me looks out of proportion, it's ok(ish) with the spoiler up but with it down it looks wide and to low. Daytona grey looks nice on it.
 
I keep looking at these Teslas. No second hand market at all for them yet (no-one wanting to sell). No matter what I do, I'd struggle to spec one below £65k..
Bring on the Model X (or whatever their 'mainstream' model will be) :)

Quite like the Porsche, think the back seats are one of my favourite parts of it. Literally like sitting in a front seat. :D

Show the world you are different by purchasing a diesel Audi or BMW.

For me the 6 Series is clearly the best choice here, it is the most premium feeling of all 3 of them, the A7 interior is almost identical to the A6 for example, the 6 Series is a step above the 5 Series in terms of its interior.

It is also not a hatchback which IMHO is another plus if you want a premium car - saloons are more refined and better looking.

It's not faster it just hits 60 faster because Quattro gives it an off the line advantage. It has less power and is heavier than the 640d so once you erase the standing start the 'faster' goes away.
 
What about an A8? They seem to represent pretty good 'value' used, and they have exceptional build quality and a very nice interior.

Ah missed that bit and has better road handling on typical wet British roads :D
