Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

enjoying the game - maps are great - if not amazing

not feeling the joy quite like some of the previous COD maps

maps from say MW2 seemed more fun to me - I still remember the fun of Terminal, Wasteland, and Estate

proper mix of choke points, places to defend etc

none of the current maps feel particularly classic to me atm even though game play is fun

Really enjoyed the SP campaign - I was dubious about a future setting, but I think that they did a really good job at keeping it 'future tech' without it feeling sci-fi.

The game looks very pretty, and the cut scenes are some of the most life like I have seen - shame that level of detail didn't carry over to gameplay, but I hardly feel hard done by.

I'm going to give MP a blast now, but don't hold much hope of it being good - I'm a Battlefield guy at heart, and haven't touched CoD MP since MW2 iirc.

As above starting to enjoy this now i'm a bit more familiar with controls, been doing 2/1 KD last couple of hours, still need to learn the maps though which will take a while.

Got turret like 5 times and was wondering why it wasn't getting me kills then realised it was a remote turret duh lol

You can hardly camp at all in MP (which isn't a bad thing in general) and CoD MP has always been very much run-and-gun to an extent. As someone said earlier in this thread, there's a sense that you can get taken out at any time.

I'm having fun in it, but it's infuriating beyond belief to engage someone in front of you only to have someone spawn right behind you and blast you away. I was hoping lessons might have been learned from Ghosts and the spawn system adjusted somewhat.

The reduced FOV with low health or system hack makes me want to stand in the open and jump up and down until its over. It reminds of that ink thing in Mario Kart probably one of the best bonuses because it cripples everyone else.

Also I wish I recorded something earlier when I spawned then not 1 second later an enemy player spawned next to but slightly in front of me...

This is very much run and gun, there isn't a second where I am not either boost jumping or boost sliding - if I'm not I feel very vulnerable and slow. Given what it is, I'm still enjoying it. I don't think I'll ever be able to put in mammoth sessions like I did MW, but for a couple of hours its a good pick up play blast. I'm still ignoring K/D ratios, scoreboards and killcams, and thus still not getting frustrated. I've now moved onto Kill Count and loving that - even though I thought I wouldn't since I'm more of an objective based player.

I'd love a game like MW to get into again, that was much slower, more thought driven, but still small action arena based. The design really was second to none. You could sneak, camp if you wanted, use tactics or just run around like a looney etc; only the latter only really works in AW. Overgrown was an awesome map for this - in fact 90% of the maps in MW were brilliant. I'm really enjoying most of the maps in AW but I don't think they come close to MW.

/random splurge of thoughts.

Anyone know what happens when you run out of slots in the armoury? It seems to me most of the items I have in there are "not redeemable" so I can't choose which to throw away. I'm guessing once my armoury is therefore full I just wont get anything else - or it'll auto choose which ones to discard?

Enjoying this more than I was, still don't like it though I just hate it less. When it is going well it is an alright CoD, nowhere near the best ones but certainly better than Ghosts. It is alright, that is until you end in a bad lobby which happens far too regularly then it is rage inducing.

Edit: We were discussing the arnoury last night, Except for guns I dismantle everything I can and I still have 2 and half pages in about 8 hours gameplay. So I am hoping that there is someway to clear it or overwrite stuff.

Very hit and miss for me. Currently level 34ish so not a ridiculous amount of time played, but enough to get a decent idea of what's what.

The winning team is decided by who has the upper hand connection wise, no two ways about it. Whether it's the lag compensation dragging down superior connections to lowest level or what I don't know, but if it's clear as day to see, I've been on both ends of the fight. Loads of fights I should never have won, I just went in guns blazing and destroyed everything. Loads of fights where I've got the jump on someone and after half a mag they simply turn around and kill me. Frustrating as hell, but oh so lovely when you're on the giving end.

The scorestreaks are a bit meh, and the variation is crap too. I didn't play Ghosts but I preferred BO2s style of scorestreaks: lots of them and very varied. This just feels crap. They are also pretty underpowered, although I must admit that adding an AI controller to some does help, the gunship thing with the AI pilot (not the paladin, the smaller one) has grabbed a few kills for me.

The game just feels too fast. Spawning in and instantly running makes everything all shaky and whatnot, bloody awful. Coupled with all the jumpy nonsense and I don't feel like a soldie rany more, rather a duracell bunny on crack. It's bloody awful.

The spawns are another terrible aspect, my very first game I jumped in a game which was in progress with some mates, and ended up on the enemy team. I got killed and respawned at exactly the same time as one of them, and we spawned in about 6ft apart, looking at each other. Shocking. That said, I've since stopped playing KC and play almost exclusively domination now which seems to have better spawns and is considerably more enjoyable.

The thing is, it's Call of Duty. It's the biggest name out there and despite all it's shortcomings it's still a fun game to play, if somewhat infurating. I must admit that the community in this game is beyond awful. Losing Domination games because your team mates refuse to leave their camping spots, losing KC because they refuse to collect tags, that kind of thing. I can understand new players needing to find their feet, but people who deliberately lie in corners and on roof tops with thermal scopes just irritate the hell out of me, especially when we're losing because of them. Get off your lazy bum and cap a flag dammit!

A massive fail for me which is more Playstation's fail is the party chat. I miss all the old trash talking from BO2, met many friends like that. The lobbies in this are just silent as everyone's in a PS4 chat which for me at least, takes a lot away from the game.

Nevertheless, I do enjoy it and will continue to do so. I find that ignoring stats and jus getting on with it helps. Also, leaving games which are unplayable. My gaming time is fairly limited nowadays so rather than spend 10 mins in a game which is making my blood boil due to crap connection issues, I'll simply leave and find another lobby.

If anyone needs a mediocre team player, feel free to add me: D-i-d-d-u-m-S

Yeah, I hate playing domination with randoms who just watch you trying to cap a flag on your own.

This is a game I streamed on Saturday (to test out if streaming at HD quality to Twitch helped at all), go to to the 20 minute mark and at 21:44 it goes a bit WTF.... Also at the very end

stream

Anyone else enjoying the supply drops? Keeps adding freshness to the game because you keep getting different variants of weapons and pieces for your characters outfit.

I have seen some pretty cool helmets that look like they jumped out of destiny.

Apparently there are over 1000 different items from supply drops, Also like that you can sell them for xp

Seems pointless getting rid of them for XP, you only get like 1,000 and seemingly 2,000 for elite items.

I only see the point for duplicated items.

The cosmetics are a waste in my opinion. Not once have I looked at another soldier and thought "oh my, those Nigerian Police trousers certainly look dashing on you!".

Should've spent those resources on real things like the (at times) shoddy connection, but then bringing logic to a CoD party is like inviting Fathers4Justice to a meeting with the admins of Mumsnet.
