Yes yes yes, step right up!

Xmas is approaching and although my wife has given me a bit of a list of all the tat things she wants, I still want a couple of surprises and one which I think might be a good 'un is a cordless hair dryer.

Not some cheap rubbish, I don't mind spending a bit on something which is worth it.

Bit of a long stretch asking here, but you never know, some of you geeks might have an ace up your sleeve :p

Any ideas?

It's a bit of a stretch, admittedly, but if you asked me if such thing as a cordless vacuum existed 5 years ago I would've laughed it off, but look at Dysons now, I hardly even use my mains vacuum any more.

Actually, might have to have a word with Mr Dyson about this, see if he can hook me up :D

This is totally useless. I wanted a battery operated hair dryer. This says HAIR DRYER on the description but it doesn't produce any heat. It is just a fan.

:p

So to plan B, a normal, corded hairdryer.

I think you might have a bit of trouble finding one - according to my dodgy calculations and quick research on drill batteries at least. It looks like the highest capacity cordless drill batteries are 5ah @ 24v, meaning they would power a 2000w hair dryer on full for less than 4 minutes. Obviously you could just stick a higher capacity battery on to achieve a longer running time, but I feel it would quickly become far too heavy and cumbersome to be of any real use, and a woman would likely hate it.

This makes sense. I forgot about the heating element, which resulted in me thinking that it would use less power than a cordless vacuum.

Damn you and your logic! :p

Ah well, on to other ideas then.

You could always walk about with one of these above your head for 10 mins :p

Considering most hairdryers are 2-3kw, I doubt such a product exists. If such a product does exist there will be 3 types:

Type one - Powerful, good battery life, weighs 84kg thanks to huge battery required.

Type two - Powerful, lightweight, battery lasts 2.7 minutes

Type three - Lightweight, good battery life, as powerful as a moth fart.

As an avid hairdryer user,

I would say... the most important things to consider for us ladies.

1. Power
2. Cool blast option on the hairdryer
3. More heat settings

I use a Vidal Sasson one which is amazing, I would not go for a GHD one though as they are overpriced. But you can pick them up for a good price at Boots / Argos :)

Just my two cents. I would be lost without my hairdryer.

Any good? :D

This ^ actually made me think "I wonder if there's a gas-powered portable hair dryer?" - I remember my mum having a gas powered hair-curling thing, why not the same for hair dryers? You'd need a battery for the fan, but the heat could draw from the gas - perfect.

But, no, they don't exist either :p

Failing that, Every girl wants either GHDS or a curling wand if she has long hair :P
