SX, unfortunately
doe anyone know of a workaround to get this installed on Server 2012 R2 (specifically remote desktop service)? The installer just says not supported on that OS :(

Thanks

I know this doesn't answer your question, but why do you need Paintshop Pro X6? Could what you're trying to do be done with more up-to-date (and likely just as good) free tools like Paint.NET or GIMP?

PSP X6 was released about August last year - X7 is the current version. It's fully compliant with Win 8.1 - but for whatever reason not server.

Why wouldn't I want to run editing software over RDS? It's common practice to use CAD software etc. in that manner.

I'm not entirely sure if this helps but do you need to ensure that the server has the Application server role and also the feature to enable desktop graphics.

Oops thought you were referring to an old Paintshop pro from 2000 or so :D.

I really dislike most modern image editing packages if it wasn't for the fact it only works in 32bit mode 7/8 I'd still use micrografx picture publisher 7 exclusively to this day. So I couldn't blame anyone for sticking with an older package.

I believe that Paintshop Pro extracts an MSI file before executing it to install. Once it's extracted it's possible you'll be able to open the MSI file up in something like InstEd It! and edit the properties of the MSI to remove the OS check.

This technique works with some MSI files, the downside is you may have to trawl through the properties until you find something close to what you need

Thanks- I've found about 8 MSI files. Nothing shows searching for the error message so think it's time to dive in!
