Audi A7 Bi turbo diesel, VS 535D and 640D

My work is done here I feel.

Yeah, the A7 shades it.

The A7 to me looks like 3 different cars stuck together. The back light area looks bad, the middle indiscriminate, and the front almost looks like it's from a smaller Audi. To me it doesn't look right.

He is buying used, there will therefore be 1 640i for sale in a bizarre colour and 4580936346734698573498573497593475935 640d's. The sad reality is that unless you buy new, if you want this sort of car now you have almost no choice but to pick a diesel.

Do Audi even do a petrol A7 that isn't the S7?

They do a 3.0 TFSI, but like you said most cars of this class are diesel.

On a slightly different note I can't remember the last time I saw a F10 530i or even a 730i, they do seem to be extremely rare :(

There is no F01 730i and the F10 530i is the most rare F10 ever produced - it only existed for 2 years and they sold only double figures.

I concur, the current A8 just looks like an A4 at 125% It doesn't really have any road presence like the old A8.

Back to the OP, does it have to be diesel? I haven't sat in any of the newer diesel BMW's or Audi's but surely the petrol variant will be more refined?

Unless of course you're doing mega miles, in which case diesel will be the way to go

This is one of the most daft posts I've ever read.

Why is it this forum is full of people who think the latest diesel engines (and technology) will have the refinement of a 1.9 diesel Golf. It simply isn't the case. I'd never pick a petrol engine in a car like the A7 or 6 series if it were my choice.

Why is it a daft thing to say?

I never said anything along the lines of it will be as refined as a 1.9 PD engine you find in the Golf.

I said I haven't sat in any of the newer BMW/Audi diesel cars, so maybe they are more refined.

Quite - they are enormously refined, I think a good example of quite how refined they are is the fact that I've had my 530d 6 months today despite being one of the most anti diesel people on this forum. As you can tell from my 335i if I didn't enjoy it and get on with it, I'd have got rid of it.

It still isn't petrol-refined though. It is a diesel and retains some of the annoying characteristics of a diesel.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I see the picture above of the A7 vs BMW 6 GC.

I dont know why but i like the shape of the a7, reminds me of a james bond car that i cant remember (LOL) the way it slopes away. That said the 640 looks very nice.

I visited a bmw dealer today but the rear leg room in a 6 is not good. I could only really afford a 6 coupe rather than GT.

I am certainly in two minds i even ended up in a jaguar dealership lol

Did you go for a test drive in that A7 bi turbo you found, im interested in what you thought of it.

yes but it was raining so very hard all the roads were flooded. it drove lovely from my experience of it. very smooth. sounded nice and picked up very well. The ride was not crashy which i expected with 21's. Road noise was minimal and that particular car had very few toys it was a nice one. The one negative i can give it is the seats are not as supportive on the legs as say a BMW 5 series.

Spent 6 months solid looking for a 530i and saw 1 come up used and it had a ton of miles and was a horrendous colour.

:(

Not sure why you'd specifically look for the 530i though, the earlier 528i was the same car with only 14bhp less.

Honestly...think it was just to have a 530i with them being so rare. Nothing really logical!

Instead I settled for the 328i - found it just that bit 'punchier'.

Anyways, back on topic, GO FOR THE 640D. It's flipping gorgeous!

What do they say about the pot calling the kettle, guess which ford overlays near perfect, especially that high back end. :D

a) That doesn't 'overlay nearly perfectly', the only reason it looks like it does is because both cars are saloons. It 'overlays nearly perfectly' on an A6 too I'd imagine.

b) Thats a Granada Saloon not the older Granada Coupe Housey was referring to.

I have not been through the thread but just FYI bmw will give around £18 to £19k discount and 0% finance over 4 years for a 640d GC
