eBay woes... Again

Morning all, I bought a PS4, second hand, 2 months old, with a receipt, 1 controller, 500GB model with Infamous Second Son. Free postage.

It was a little high at £300, but I accepted my greed and paid instantly. This was on the 5th November. I instantly got feedback from the seller with:

Super fast payment - thanks

Fast forward a few days, I had heard nothing by the Friday (estimated delivery on Friday 7th or Monday 10th). I sent him a polite message asking for a tracking number:

Morning mate,

Just wondered if you sent the PS4 and if so, what the tracking number is. eBay is estimating a delivery of today.

Thanks

So, nothing over the top, he specified the following in his advert:

The console will go in the original packaging and I will place it in another box and fill all gaps with bubble wrap. There is next to no chance of this getting damaged. Or of course you can collect.

Having heard nothing back, and being annoyed, the next day I sent:

Hi, still no message from you. Can you please provide a tracking number? If the item hasn't been delivered or I am not supplied with a tracking number by Monday 5pm, I will be contacting PayPal directly.

Thanks

I could have waited yes, it was a bit soon. But I've still not heard anything, the deadline date has been and gone. I am tempted to give him one last message stating the estimated delivery has been and gone, I've heard nothing and will now be raising this with PayPal. If I hear nothing back from him, then tonight I will indeed go through the refund channel.

He seems to be a buyer, with only 13 feedback. One of the 13 is: Time waster AVOID... But it's positive. The PS4 is the first thing he has ever sold.

Thoughts? Am I being too impatient? It's £300 and I don't want to lose that if I'm honest and I could have bought many other PS4's for cheaper and much quicker by now... There was even one for £280 on the members market brand new!

You'll be covered by eBay, don't worry.

Just make sure all message are sent via eBay system and you'll get the money back quickly.

Then go buy from MM or look for deals on HUKD.

Seeing as it's going to take over a week for PayPal/eBay to step in, I've just raised that I want a refund, I now have to wait until the 19th November before PayPal/eBay will step in :(

Sigh... Such a long winded process.

yeah, the bay can be an absolute nightmare whether buying or selling.
When doing either i look in MM. Sadly you can't always find what you want on MM, nor get your stuff sold, so then bay is the next option. It's a gamble though. as a seller i've been ripped before.

In all fairness, this is the first time I've had a proper issue, I'm probably being over cautious as it's only been a week... But it's £300, for the first item he has sold. For all I know, he could be some 13 year old with a PayPal account just pretending to sell to make some money.

Now I'm stuffed, minus £300 and without a PS4...

If its the first thing hes sold then no doubt paypal are holding his money until you say you have the item. Hes probably waiting for the oney to clear to his paypal account before sending not realising it wont clear till you leave feedback

it says you can collect go collect

i only buy stuff i can collect on ebay nw as its just scam paradise now.

Sellers can't leave anything other than positive feedback for buyers. If you get a bad one, you can choose between leaving no feedback, or leaving positive with a negative narrative (which is what that seller did).

When dealing with private sellers, I think you do need to be a little more patient with delivery times. People have real lives to fit around their ebay listings - it can be particularly difficult to be prompt with Buy-it-Now listings, as you don't know when it will finish. He's also an inexperienced seller, which you knew when bidding (and which usually drives the price down).

He's been a bit crap, but you have come on pretty strong - if you wanted assured fast delivery, go with an experienced seller or buy new. He's not a business, he's a first time seller. If you continue to hear nothing after a few messages (give at least 24 hours between; I tend to leave it 48 hours), then open a case.

ebay doesn't even come close to being worth the frustration.

The problem is that anyone can open an account. It's full of chancers, idiots, morons, scammers and people who are just too thick to understand how buying or selling works.

I only use it as an absolute last resort, but then the rainforest usually has the things I need.

Screw ebay. Absolutely hate the place with a passion.

To be fair to the OP, I'm sure if the seller had actually answered his question, and responded with something like "sorry mate, haven't had a chance to go to the PO yet, will send it out on XXXX and give you the tracking number", he would have been a bit more patient.

I think you are being impatient. The 7th-10th includes 2 days of the weekend so only 2 feasible days for it to be delivered.

If you want a generally high quality experience then don't use ebay, forums are a much more pleasant place to buy things.

This.

Only takes a little common sense and people just dont have 300 quid to be sat in some holding account.

You can actually get some decent deals on ps4 now, brand new for a little more than you paid - so chase refund asap and take your money elsewhere

I sell quite a bit on ebay as a private seller, as somebody above says it can be a pain to get to the post office some days. I also don't factor Saturday/Sunday into my postage estimates. Give it a few more days and see what happens, you're covered anyway.

How so? MILLIONS of people have used ebay without issue - forums still leaves the same potential issue - is this some idiot on the internet who's going to rip me off? What magic protection does a forum offer you? What an odd thing to say.

If someome breaks their ps4 or whatever, decides to sell it - then claim "oh it worked perfectly when I sent it, you must have broke it" What then? naughty words on the forum? like the other person cares when they have your money.

He sent an aggressive, impatient message the next day after inquiring about delivery tracking, and all still within the delivery timescale.

I've sold a couple of hundred items on ebay (all bar about half a dozen were, admittedly, pretty low value - under £100). I've never had negative feedback (one neutral from an inexperienced, stupid buyer - "delivery a bit slow" when delivered within spec), but sometimes it takes me a day or two to respond to buyers' queries. It's frustrating when you get buyers going off on one when they've only given you 12 hours to respond.

I've also bought a lot of items, and have to say my buying experience has been almost unblemished (I've had more problems (though not many anyway) with stupid buyers than with stupid sellers). I do tend to keep expectations in check when dealing with private sellers though.
