16nm GM200 Titan II being tested..

It isn't a compulsory purchase like food though. Taking the **** would be for things like water rates/electric bill/community charges/gas bills and they do take the **** :(

Point is, you don't HAVE to buy it.

That's true but it's not like Nvidia don't know they have a large enthusiast market who'll buy up new tech as it becomes available. It's like dangling a carrot on a string in front of a donkey, for want of a better analogy lol. Going back to the point made a few pages earlier we're being drip fed, the business competition isnt fierce enough to drive things forward fast enough.

At the moment the competition is dead. AMD have had no answer (unless you count the announcement of an 8GB card on old tech which is simply not needed) and i can assure you if your competition were the same you would do the same or be stupid not to.

More or less everyone drip feeds, isnt that whats supposed to happen ?

True and the improvements are slightly lacking in the "WOW" factor. The trouble is, AMD have allowed nVidia to do this and have not battered an eyelid... nVidia know their business and know how to maximise profit.

If it's able to remain as a top end card for at least 2 years I wouldn't mind buying one for £999.

That's highly unlikely to happen however

In 6 months (at most) AMD will have a revision out that will be a very competitive budget option, and within 18months something at least directly comparable (but still cheaper)

Unfortunately for us the customers I think AMD has cocked this up atm and I see them having one shot at this and needing 6 months for a 970/980 competitor would ruin them financially and the 390x needs to be a stonking good card or I see them going the way of the Dodo.

He didnt say it needed to be the fastest card for 2 years

I would still call a Titan a top end card, despite being nearly 2 years old, they still come in within single digit fps of the current top end cards from both sides,
cheaper yes but if took the "something cheaper will be out in 12 months" approach then you would never buy anything

they are a LONG way from disappearing completely. They will get a lot of sales no matter what just because its their new card and its going to be an improvement on what most have now.

Now whether it competes at the very high end is another matter or even the high mid-range like the 970 - that's certainly debatable :)

It all depends on how many people are that interested in gaming at very high refresh rates in 4k (which is a very small % of sales, even if everyone does it at once which is unlikely even for the 2nd gen of 4k capable cards)

Where, before there was a whole lot of high performance users in the same bracket, I think the market has now split slightly because of 4k and there are a lot of these users who are content with a large HD screen and a 970's / 290s etc and those in the highest tier with 4k and will probably grab these cards when they come out

Just my view though :)

Exactly what I was thinking. I doubted the Titan's value when it was first launched but people who've made the initial purchase and held onto them until now has definitely got their moneys worth imo.

There's always a right time to buy, if you put in the effort you can sniff it out.

The people who bought 980s, for instance, might get shafted by GM200, if it does tip up this year. People who read the news knew that it was slated for this year because of the research paper.

Why? If a GM200 card does come out this year it will be a Titan like halo card at close to £1000. In fact even if GM200 comes out early next year i still expect it to be the same.

Nobody gets shafted and anyone with a 980/970 will still be able to game at good resolutions. People sit on the fence and miss out while others are gaming. No catch 22, buy your GPU when you want and don't fuss about what might be coming or will be coming.

I had no issues after buying a pair of Titans and 3 months later they released the 780 for £300 less. That's life and far more important things to stress over.

Most of them bought 980s because they have to have the fastest. Penny pinchers bought the 970.

I would have thought most bought them because they still had cards lower than a 290 or 780 series card.....

Sure there will always be a few who have to have the fastest but lets face it, those people have so much money to burn anyway, it doesn't matter, they will just always buy the latest stuff out.

I will see little to none (dependant on the games) buying a 980, I want the Robert (FAT) Maxwell. :D

proper loled :D

Very true. Some buy purely for benching, some buy because they like new toys and some buy because they can.

I look at it differently to everyone here. Most people spend £200 to £400 a month on booze and cigarettes. I don't drink and I don't smoke therefore I put what I used to spend on those things in my hobby fund. So if a GPU costs £1000 and I have that in my hobby fund I spend it on something to brings me enjoyment and dont worry about what is around the corner. And when that comes out if it tickles my fancy I sell what I have and buy what's new. If I don't have the money I wait for the next slice of bread to come round. Life is short enjoy what you can.

This does not mean I am loaded means I might just spend my money differently to others.
