We seem to be suffering more from the curse of the Qashqai this year, three seperate sets of blinding lights at different heights.
A lot of people seem to turn their headlight level to the highest setting. At that angle it's just as bad.
You mean the dial inside the car? All that does it lower the headlight beam, not raise it.

what happens to the headlights when you turn that dial the opposite way?

No, he's right - the default position, ie the correct one for normal driving, is maximum height. You use the lever to lower the headlights when the car is heavily loaded or towing a trailer.
Therefore people don't blind you because they've fiddled with the lever (Unless they have a caravan).
Yes but the complaint was that people use the dial to raise the lights in the context of a thread about blinding headlights.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I find it puzzling that someone drives along with their adjustment dial set to the highest number (3 or 4) and their entire beam pattern barely stretches a metre in front of them. On lit roads it's not a big deal but when you overtake them on the motorway I genuinely question their sanity. They're usually the people with a sat-nav on day mode, at eye level, next to the A-pillar.
Have this almost daily with poorly adjusted headlights... and full beams (might just be poorly adjusted again)
Question.. is it possible to adjust your mirrors to deflect the beam directly back into their face? I've tried but can only get them to the end of my rear wing hehe!
Especially when stuck in traffic and its something like a 4x4, i'm not kidding you after a long day staring at a computer screen to have an hour drive in the dark only to blinded is actually physically painful!
I simply must invent a device to blind drivers with their own headlights!
Anyone got any ideas?

This bugs me a lot too. I felt so bad when my car's lights were stuck at chest height @ 8m away, because the sensor, or something, had broken, and no dial/selector on the dash. I found the knob under the bonnet to adjust it after a few days though.
On a related note, is there a certain FOV or angle that lights need to be to pass an MOT? I just "aimed mine down a bit" until it looked right.
On a less related note, what sort of distance do you turn off your full beams when driving up behind someone?
