B Grade GPU bargains !!

Damn that 7990 is very tempting!!!

I thought I'd misread it at first. :D

If it anything like the majority of them i wouldn't bother. Review samples = cool and quiet for the most part, and retail boards for the most part ran hot and loud. Just have to look at the 7990 thread on here to see people having to undervolt, mod bios etc to get it running under 90c when the review cards ran at 65-70c tops mostly.

Yeah, I've read some of the problems that people have had on here. Anyway, my cpu isn't ideal for dual gpu, although I expect I'd still see very noticeable gains in some / most instances.

While I'm not disagreeing with what you are saying, but to be fair I think reviews probably done the tests in an open-bench, in contrast to whereas people often do not have the best airflow for their cases.

They had 10+ msi 780ti's for £260 last week. The normal and gaming editions. Don't know where they all went.

I'm assuming they were leftover from the prebuilt machines OCUK sell ? Considering many of them would probably use the new maxwell cards.

They also had a couple of 780 Ti GHZ editions for £260. I bought one. It was fully boxed with all the accessories with a manufacturing date of 2014 week 25. I think it was returned because of the coil whine. Not a problem with headphones though.:D

Also apparently Gigabyto honour the warranty from the manufacturing date ?

Open air on my card on a single 1080 screen hit 80c+, 3 screens ran into the 90's. A far cry from the magical review samples that hit 65-70c regardless of what type of res was thrown at them. My case at the time was a fortress ft02 which is a great case for airflow and even that wasn't enough to tame it.

Is this some kind of joke ?

This B grade Asus 970 is only 6 quid cheaper than the new price and you don't get the free games or warranty either. The PCS+ 290X is the SAME price as a brand new one. WTH!!!?

Come on be a bit more realistic..

The b grade stuff often gets put in the clearance section at the same price it was sold at as they just stick it in there and dont always adjust the price. Its not one of their priorities. I find best thing to do if you are interested in a clearance item is to post your interest in the customer services forum. You will then get a reply saying the price will be adjusted in a couple of hours. I've done this a few times sometimes with over £100 lopped off the price.

However after my experiences with b grade GPU's of late I would never buy one again. Not saying all b-grade stuff as I have had some brilliant bargain motherboards from clearance just GPU's I wouldn't touch them again - eg Gigabyte 780ti's & 7850's crashing, black screening etc.

Yeah, my old 7990 used to hit 95 degrees with an open case and lots of fans. I found I had to use it as a 2nd card to my 7970 as it ran a bit cooler as a crossfire slave rather than the GPU driving the display.

As the master card, it would hit a high temp and throttle itself to 500mhz until reboot in some games.

Hated that card...

Yup, woulda been a great card had it ran the way the reviews suggested, as it happens it just seemed to be pain in the ass for a lot of people with all the voltage tweaking and bios editing to get it to run at sub 90c temps. Even then it was annoyingly loud.

Whats with the price of the Msi 290X Gaming in B Grade, all the new Msi 290X are cheaper, even the 8Gb. And what happened to all the 290's that were on here the other day, all disappeared. Why is the B Grade always a mess.:mad::p:D

Some B-Grade items make no sense at all.

A GPU in the clearance section was more expensive by about £50 compared to a brand new GPU, Same model, I think the staff were smoking something :p
