Considering re-homing my beloved dogs....

The missus is going through exactly the same thing, except she doesn't drive HGV. Divorce dogs make me sad. She wants to keep him but it's not fair on him since her place is empty 0900-1600.

My saving grace is I have two together who keep each other company, that's a long time for a dog on its own. :/

Not an option, they have small kids who are terrified of them (unjustifiably but there you go!)

I have signed up to Borrow my Doggy! :)

Sort of similar situation at home, always used to be someone at home during the day, parents are now divorced, everyone who still lives at home now works and we are thinking of trying out dog walker a few times a week and see how it goes.
Ours are pedigree Labs, brother and sister about 8 years old now and they go mad if they are separated for even 10 mins!

From reading you are keeping? Fantastic.

Its not cruel at all as the dogs have their own company with one another and the neighbours help out. Perhaps ask if they do want some cash mind just as a prolonged thank you? Hopefully the dog walking goes well also.

Just spend as much time with them when you can and everything should be good :)

As long as the dogs are happy and not damaging your property while you are away (this would be a sign that they are unhappy if they are), then I would definitely keep them :)

Looks like an on-line match making site, for a £44 subscription (for 12 months) you are linked to dog walkers (who are apparently vetted) in your area, they list their availability etc and you see who suits, looks pretty straight forward although thus far, the profiles I've seen are of somewhat petite women who I can't envisage controlling one of mine, never mind both!

Time will tell, I'll update as & when I try it out.

Don't.

Your dogs are also attached to you, and your circumstances could change in the next year or so. You may meet a local girlfriend and she ends up helping look after them.

You never know, i'd wait till the dust settles and see what the future holds before you get rid of your pets.

It'll also be painful for you.

So, I'm keeping them!

You do have the advantage of them being a pair, so they will keep each other company during the day.
Had you only had one dog, then perhaps the kindest thing might have been to re-home it.

Unlike cats, dogs become very dependent on their owners - being the creatures of habit and routine that they are - any change of the 'pack leader' will unsettle them.

It is obvious from your OP that you have the animals welfare at heart so don't sweat your decision.

he's suggested a good supply of knuckle bones to keep them occupied and to carry on as I am.

I'm very surprised he would recommend that your dogs be left with food, especially bones, as you won't be around if they get into difficulty / start choking.

I've always been told never to leave your dog alone with a bone.

But, otherwise, great news :)

Is that Apedale?

I have a friend who is a dog walker based in newcastle who i would recommend in a heartbeat.

Im not sure if this is against rules but here is his facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/NewcastlePetCare?fref=ts

It's Silverdale country park (the former colliery site - the lake is the opencast which is now flooded) you can walk through it and wind up in Apedale.

Thanks for the link, it won't open on my phone though :/
