So tonight coming home from work, my car got hit by another vehicle. I was in the middle lane box for turning right, indicator and lights all on. Cars came past, last van/truck came passed and smashed all down the right side of my car. Got a witness and the guy stopped, so I could get all his details.

What a pain!

So now the car doesn't really turn properly, got it towed up my road out of the way (Oh yeah, this happened 50m from my house). The door doesn't really shut as well due to the damage. I've called the insurers to get something going claims wise, as I figured it was best to get things going asap.

What are people experiences with the claims process? I've said that it can go to the insurers garage, so I can get a courtesy car, but in the mean time I'm stuck.

Ouch, that's rotten luck!

It should all go fairly smoothly as long as the other guy plays ball and reports it to his insurers. You have a witness and, as long as they don't know you, your insurers can get a statement from them if the other guy plays silly buggers and doesn't admit liability.

As for the repair process, again it should be fairly plain sailing. You're using one of the networks repairers so they'll give you a courtesy car while yours is in for repair. Having said that, what is your car worth? That damage isn't going to be cheap to fix and the repair costs only have to exceed 60% of it's market value and they'll write it off.

Sorry if I've alarmed you, but just giving you fair warning!

I wish you good luck with it mate.

The person I spoke to pretty much said it's likely to be written off because of the age, but someone will come out and have a look. We'll see what they say.

It's a low mileage (< 40k) Civic Sport, which seem to keep reasonable value considering the age now. I would guess, something around 3k, but it's hard to say, not really looked into it.

Thanks for the info, never had this before, so any info going into it is always nice. Thanks buddy.

What a choad. Might be worth scouring autotrader and pistonheads for similar cars so you can get ready to argue with the insurance company's valuation if it is written off.

erf, looks nasty mate :(

2 new panels, new door, new lock possibly? new wing mirror
Full respray on those panels too

But looking at the pics. that front wing doesnt match the pillar, doesnt match the bumper, doesnt match the door, but does match the bonnet :/

And as above yup start scouring for the same car for sale too just in case

Ouch, glad you're ok though.

Best of luck with the insurers. Even if you're not at fault and the other party admits liability, it CAN take ages. So be prepared and just hope you manage to get things resolved quickly.

I'm still waiting on the outcome of a claim where a chap reversed into my parked car, admitted liability, etc. This happened in August 2013.

Know exactly what that's like (rear ended last week)

Not looking good for getting back on the road unfortunately, see if you can buy it back, damage isn't enough to really worry about anyway

Got hit Friday, his insurance called me Wednesday to accept liability and asked me where I'd like to take it to get fixed. I think insurance companies are used to it here!

Ouch, real pity. If that's Milano red (which I think it is), you'll have to get a whole respray if that side is done as the colour has started to fade under the lacquer and you'd end up with one very bright red side and one faded side. It's a great colour but known to fade badly :(

All that said, I believe that you can insist that your car is repaired as someone else caused the damage.

100% right off Id say. Get looking on autotrader buddy. Sorry. Id say at least £1k in a good body shop and that doesnt take into account it wont turn well!

Just been looking on Auto Trader, just been looking locally (30/40 miles), to see what there is out there. There aren't many of that model/mileage out there and the ones that are there, are still going of an decent amount.

Yeah I loved the car as well, we'll see what happens with the insurance as to whether to go similar again or something else that can eat up motorway miles.

It wasn't too bad, when he came towards me, I just shouted "Nooooo! Oh FFS". More the fact that I was going to have to deal with insurers, than getting injured... I think I have my prioritise the wrong way around :P
