UHD!![]()
It's not being picky, 3840x2160 isn't 4K, 4096x2160 is 4K.
It depends on the context of how does the jump feel.
Yep it is a different aspect ratio, but that's what 4K is, 4k isn't 16:9.
You'll be waiting a while for UHD at 144hz. It depends on whether you prefer resolution or refresh rate of you're wanting to buy now.
Had 1440, went to 4K, now back on 1440(144hz), the "jump" to 4k was impressive at first but motion handling was not actually that great, hi refresh 1440 is the sweetspot for gaming right now
@spoffle, everyone, manfacturers, the industry, consumers, everyone, says 4K and UHD interchangeably, just deal with it
Have both 4K (AOC U2868PQU) and then subsequently bought the Asus ROG Swift ("1440p") - came from gaming on 1920x1080@120Hz though I'm not a new comer to 2560x resolutions having a couple of IPS/PLS panels though I don't really game on them.
There are a few games on 4K that are utterly jaw dropping at that resolution to look at but as andy said the motion handling on the current 4K panels just isn't there and atleast for me I couldn't get a sweet spot with the mouse input in some games where its to some degree tied to the resolution also found the DPI scaling lacking in some stuff making it less than comfortable to use. Overall just didn't feel as good an experience to me as 120+Hz at 2560x1440 - it lacks the short term impact of 4K but IMO is a more comfortable setup for long term.
As an aside though it would probably be a different story comparing a 40+" 4K panel side by side the ROG Swift using nVidia's DSR from 3840x2160 scaled to 2560x1440 does a surprisingly convincing job of mimicking what 4K looks like on a ~28" panel its not perfect and depends a lot game to game but overall its not a bad imitation.
4K is great for some stuff and there are 1-2 games where if I spent all my time playing them I'd use a 4K panel but for overall gaming I'm not convinced 4K panels are there yet.
Ultra settings (minus AA) at 4K in BF4 in a moderately busy server averages about 47fps but can drop as low as 25. Drop a few settings to high and can easily hold 60fps though.
The 21:9 panels seem to be a popular choice but depends a lot person to person. I have the Dell U2913WM but I'm too used to 120Hz to use it much for gaming - quite enjoyed playing some single player on it but would probably use the Swift in its place now.
that seems strange, everyone ive saw/asked has said around 30 fps and the same in reviews... do you lower settings accordingly?
I'm running a fairly decent OC on the 780 - at my every day clock its about 7-9% faster than a stock 780ti or about 30% faster than a reference 780.

Last night I had a quick play of my two favourite games, Dishonored and Fallout NV both of which support 3840X2160, looked great on my AOC 4K monitor, settings on high with no AA, with just 1X R9 290 Gaming, played ok, no idea what the frame rate was but both games were smooth and playable. But the heat, wow, the 290 was throttling and hit 93C in dishonoured, only 85C in Fallout NV, need to find better cooling!![]()
