Mixamp with PS4 - quiet party chat?

I have recently switched from a turtlebeach xp400 setup to a mixamp + sennheiser hd515 + modmic on my ps4.

I have it all setup and updated the firmware incase that was the issue, this is a 2013 mixamp.

It all works but party chat is really quiet, i have to ask people in the chat to turn their mic input right up and move the dial well over to the right for chat otherwise i can barely hear people talking over the game sound.

The sound quality in game is amazing and well above the TB but the chat is frankly awful in comparison :(

I can not see any setting or things i can do to resolve this - any suggestions?

Yes had something like this myself, so to devices in settings on your ps4, and select audio devices, set the party chat level on there, it's called adjust microphone level.

I was annoying chat members with it, when I was told to adjust the levels.

I think i have already done this - i had to adjust my mic volume as it was too loud but i don't think that does anything about the volume of other peoples voices in the chat?

From the PS4 you can't adjust an individuals volume, all you can do is adjust the mix towards party chat. On the party screen go to party settings then adjust audio mix.

I have moved it over a bit but it still isn't coming through as loud as speech did on the turtle beach headset unless i dial the game/voice control way over to voice on the mixamp - of course this is then cutting down the game sound loads :(

I suffer the same problem, on my 360 the voice/game dial was in the middle but ps4 it has to be so much more to voice. I couldn't find a solution in ps4 settings or online though bedt set up I have found is master volume about 2/3rds to max and chat/game about half way between middle and max chat, so about 3 o'clock position.

Cheers, confirms its not just me then - will try that and live with it i guess, any idea if the 2015 version of the mixamp resolves it?

I wouldn't expect this to change MixAmps have been like that since their inception. You just need to bump up the master as it fades to over to voice. I have to agree on the quality of sound it is really worth putting on the headphones for more than just positional sound in some FPS games now.

Does it just connect up like the 360 on the PS4? I haven't had a chance to try the mic setup yet.

I use the 2011 edition but the newer ones officially support ps4/xb1 so it is a possibility but I don't know.

It wasn't that bad on Xb360, I used to have mixer in the middle or slightly towards chat. Ps4 I have to favour chat a lot to hear clearly. Though a lot depends on mics too, I know I have been in some parties barely able to hear one person but deafened by another.

For the 2011 version I use it connects up the same as xb360, just need a different cable from controller to mixamp.

I have the original type MixAmp which always needed to be well on the voice side.

The campaign sound on AW is comparable to modern film audio for depth. I couldn't really say that about many last gen titles, but that was to be expected on a few percent of an old CPU. Just like last gen though it doesn't seem to be glitch free. I noticed the MP firing range seems to occasionally stutter with sound drop out for some reason.

I couldn't see an obvious cable on the Astro site even using the PS4 filter. I will look again.

Cheers, I'll have to get one of those cables

Mine looks largely like a MixAmp Pro Gen 1 except clearly that isn't really Gen 1 as it's an updated design from the one I have.

Cheers, I have read that the older mixamp 5.8 with the turtle beach cable doesn't have the issue. Mine is a 2013 model so doesn't need the cable but I will try upping the master volume with chat further over as I didn't go past about 12 o'clock on master :)

Just for closure...

I played around and as you say the 3 o'clock towards voice is fine with the sound ramped up a fair whack, i was worried going too far over would cut the sound out but it obv doesn't

I am happy with it now :)
