I have £300 for a graphics card.

An AMD 290 for about £290.00 ono sounds good, unless you want nvidia specific features such as DSR, physx. But it will cost more to get an nv equivalent such as the gtx 970, which will use a bit less power and run a bit cooler.

Been making the same choice with a similar budget

AMD 290 is at a very nice price between £220 and £250. 290x for me was overkill for my needs.

I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong but read a few folks stating the 290x makes a difference if you bench but little real world difference in games and it is a hot a power hungry beast.

Cards are too close to call for me (less power and heat the major difference not a personal concern and not fussy about brand) factor for me is the games bundle with the green team and far cry 4 winning out. i.e it comes down to personal choice and need.

In the £220 to £300 range spoiled for choice with the cards in spitting distance of each other. Makes it a bit more of a time consuming processes than normal I think, as no clear winner, lot of very good cards within this price range.

You can really fine tune for individual need and specific preference.

Depends what your requirements are.

Only really difference between the 290 and 970 is the noise, power usage and in turn heat plus obviously the extra bits such as mantle for AMD and DSR and physx for Nvidia.

If you go with a custom cooled 290 then noise won't be much of an issue either.

Both the 290 and 970 trade blows with the 970 generally accepted as a quicker card but again overclocking depends on luck of the draw.

You can grab a MSI 970 for £276 or a MSI 290 for £220

I've moved from a 290 to a 970 and didn't regret the move at all.

I would avoid the MSI 970 as there is a known fan issue.

Asus Strix for quiet or Gigabyte G1 for best all-rounder in my opinion.

The Gigabyte G1 is also faster out the box than the Strix.

Do not buy the MSI 970 they have problems with fans and are more likely to have coil whine...

All cards are likely to have coil whine and all cards have the potential to have fan issues.

It's like saying don't buy a car because it might need a service.

If it's faulty then you can RMA it for a new one.

I am selling my almost New R9 290 MSI twin Froza OC Edition £179 ,will not fit in my new corsair small ATX Case width of card .

Do you think £179 about right price to sale ,contents new , card only had day or so in my Lian li case also selling ,keep changing my cases.

Might want to get rid of this before a mod sees, selling isn't allowed outside of the Members Market and nor are price checks
