replacing water cooling with air; I must be insane?

Ok don't hurt me it's not ''proper'' water cooling but rather corsair H100i

So looking at online results if I where to replace my H100i with thermalrite silver arrow extreme I would see the same temps? Or possible 1 degree worse

I would take out the messy looking h100i I would be removing the likely hood of this failing one day and frying my 4770k I would also I think achieve a lower noise output as the h100i is like a jet when under load

Am I mad ? Stupid ? Insane ?
Or does this make sense.

P's I don't like the look of the h100i in my case. So many wires coming out of the water block. That have to go over my mobo. Too tight to do anything with

About as crazy as a fox. :D
Top air are better than CLCs, especially the H100i

What case, RAM and mobo do you have?
Which Silver Arrow Extreme are you looking at? I would suggest an extra TY-143 on exhaust vent or a duct from cooler to exhaust vent to remove all the heated air from it out of case without mixing in with case air. ;)

wow i feel so much better now thank you

case corsair 750d
ram corsair vengeance
mobo is msi mpower max

don't think i can have a 3rd fan but like you said i could have an exhaust fan plus fans at the top of case ....... when you say duct do you mean actually create ducting from the cooler attached to the vent fan???

I think that mobo has about 48mm from center CPU to RAM socket .. and plenty to PCIe socket and first is x4 anyway.

Corsiar Vengeance is about 52.6mm tall .. too tall for many coolers.

750D has 170mm CPU clearance spec.

Cryorig R1 Universal is 48.5mm from center CPU to front of fan. There are a few others like Thermalrgiht Macho, Archon IB-E should just fit (it's 53mm center CPU to front of fan). TRUE Spirit 140 Power, TRUE Spirt 140, and new about to release TRUE Power 140 BW Rev.A are the same, but they are 171mm tall except for TS140 BW Rev.A which is 165mm tall.

Measure your clearance from top of motherboard PCB to side cover. You may have 171mm .. and if you do the TRUE Spirit 140 Power is in mid 30's. Great cooler for very reasonable price. 0.6c warmer than NH-D14 and 2.7dBA quieter. ;)

doyll are you saying this cooler would not be good for my setup? due to ram issues? or would this just sit snug up against my ram not needing to cover it? with the fans being installed the opposite side of the ram

i really want the best air cooler that can be bought and i dont feel that a single fan would offer me this???? especially when overclocked??

Which cooler is "this cooler"?

Single fan is 1c, maybe 2c warmer. Often case airflow not being optimized will result in more difference than using just one fan. In your case (no pun) I would use the same fan as on cooler in rear exhaust and controlled same as CPU fans to suck heated exhaust from cooler out of case.

As said, MPower Max has:
Center CPU to side of 1st PCIe socket = 69mm
Center CPU to side of 2nd PCIe socket = 89mm
Center CPU to side of 1st RAM socket = 49mm

Silver Arrow SB-E = 155x105x164mm (W x D x H) with 51.5mm center CPU to front of cooler; 78mm to front of fan.
Silver Arrow IB-E = 155x105x164mm with 51.5mm center CPU to front of cooler; 78mm to front of fan.
Cryorig R1 Ultimate = 140x117.4x165.3mm with 40mm to front of cooler; 65.4mm to front of fan.
Cryorig R1 Universal = 140x115x165.3mm with 35.5mm to front of cooler; 48.5mm to front of fan.

Here is a chart of many of the top coolers size and clearances:

* add 3mm for motherboard to bottom fin
** center CpU to front of cooler W/O fan
*** Center CPU to PCIe side (base is off-center for better PCI-E slot clearance)
*1* recessed lower fins, the NH-D15 provide 64mm RAM clearance
*2* offest back for better RAM clearance
*3* fins are at 3 different levels

If you notice any errors, please let me know.

Edit:
With your 750D I would use 2x front, 1x (maybe 2) bottom140mm PWM intakes on CPU PWM signal control .. maybe one of them on GPU PWM signal control. This will supply air as needed by CPU & GPU coolers but be very quiet when not working under heavy load.

I am expecting a R1 Universal shortly and plan to test it and R1 Ultimate with TY-143 high cfm fan/s.
