I've been toying with swapping my E92 for a Cayman. The model in my range would be 2006-2008 (sub 20k).

What are peoples thoughts on this? Would I regret the swap?

I'm not yet decided between the 2.7 and 3.4 yet. I'd rather have an S, but they seem harder to come by in the trim I want (Nav, Auto).

You would regret if you wanted to fit more than 2 people in your car! Really depends what you want in a car.

From a driving perspective, Cayman should be an improvement in handling, grip and performance, even in 2.7 form compared to the 330i, although the 3.4 would a chunk faster again.

I don't really care about the seats. 2 is enough for me. What do people think about the auto v manual ?

I was recently in a similar situation. F30 328i, F10 330d or Cayman (facelift). Went F30.

F10 had the nicest and best quality interior.
The Cayman looked the best.
F30 made me smile everytime I put my foot down. I like smiling.

It also had a nice balance of practicality, quality and comfort.

Saying that if I felt like spending £40k I'd have gone for the new Cayman but couldn't really justify it.

If you can get a second gen as they included sat-nav as standard and had the nicer facelift etc. Plus the 2.9 engine doesn't have the exploding problems the 2.7 has...

If you can get a gen 2 cayman that the way to go, ok I am a Porsche fanboy but they are truly epic cars.

However I would not want a Gen 1 cayman my self due to the possible running costs.

I've become a lazy driver :(;).

In all seriousness, I mainly do city driving - my left foot kills after a long drive.

So why buy a Cayman?

It's a fantastic sports car but loses something with an auto. if you want to waft about in the city don't buy a Cayman. You'll end up shelling out to run it without really benefiting from it.

First the Tip box in the Gen 1 is a POS, the PDK in the Gen 2 on the other hand is amazing.

93k miles for me would put me off but may not to some others.

Maybe you can get the price down a couple of thousands only putting this a couple of thousand over budget

It will have lower running costs than a Gen 1 car and will get a few thousand more back come resale time.

At 20k I would look at a 335i.

I wouldn't! Worst £20k car ever? It won't buy an F30 and the E92 isn't a £20k car anymore unless it says 'M3' on the back. Plus he already has an E92 M Sport so he'd be chucking thousands and thousands into the deal only to emerge with the exact same car thats faster!

Wow. Interesting, I wont Hi-jack this thread tho. I might open up a new one to ask why no to a 335i as I was thinking one as a possible daily in the new year, haven't heard anything bad about them really.

There is nothing wrong with them at all they are just not cars to spend £20k on anymore, just like E46 M3's are great but you'd be nuts to spend £20k on one.

By all means get one just spend less money on it.

Fully agree with Fox, I have a 07 335i which I have owned since 09. Its a fanatic car in the £10k to £15k price range but there is no way I would want to spend £20k on and E9x anymore.

Thanks all for the replies.

Thinking about it more, i am open to having a manual transmission.
Gen2 seems to be slightly out of my price range (I only found 1 that was <25k near me).

Any thoughts what the E92 MSport would be worth on P/X? It's got Pro Nav, Electric Seats, Leathers, 19" BMW upgraded alloys and around 80k on the clock.

I agree on the points above on the 335i. I did give the M3 a thought but decided against it in the end. What other cars are in this bracket?

Buying a Porsche is a big move and you should be willing to travelling a long way to find the right car but when you do find the right car it will be worth it. I think if you can stretch to 23k you may be able to find one. Also a 23k gen 2 Cayman will probably be worth 18 to 19k in 2 years.
