Big Swing in Market Share From AMD to NVIDIA: JPR

I can see it now :p

Head of marketing ;)

AMDbug, love it :D

I wouldn't do it even if they offered it to you humbug.

You enjoy a good discussion/argument just like the rest of us. Matt has lost his bite since becoming a rep, there is now so much he cannot comment on. :)

I think that's slightly unfair on Matt. Sure he can't spend his time just helping users here like he used to (and having a good swing while here) but you don't know the work he's doing behind the scenes as well with the feedback he's getting from the community. It's not all going to be front of house work he does and when doing it for a job remember there's only so many hours a day you can do it before you detach and enjoy your hobby.

Either way the competence of Matt is not really something we can all objectively judge. AMD will have their own things they want him to achieve and as long as he's doing that then fair play.

At least it's good that AMD have a rep on here, i personally would like to see nvidia interact more with end users on forums like this.

Im not blaming Matt he does work hard, im referring to the muzzle he now has to wear as an AMD Rep, this section of the forum has not been the same without Greg and Matt at each others throats.

Look at VR for example - I met a person who bought a GTX970 for the Asynchronous Warp function for his Oculus Rift since AMD did not support it.

It appears the R9 290 series has supported it for a while according to the Oculus Rift CEO,but AMD marketing did not big it up in any way.

Even things like Mantle - a lot of people are unaware that it does help with older CPUs(like Core2 quads and the Phenom II X4 and X6)for example, yet AMD should be asking to reviewers to test it in more CPU limited situations too. If it were Nvidia they would be pushing it in reviews.

Edit!!

Other thoughts too - from what I gather Nvidia also enforces far more stricter guidelines than AMD for reviews too,and they are far more aggressive in showing up any cracks in the competition.

Look at the R9 290/R9 290X launch. Nvidia marketing was proactive enough within a few days to start seeding reviewers free reference R9 290/R9 290X cards and telling them to test the cards in quiet mode to show throttling. Yet,go back a while earlier - three large European tech sites showed throttling issues with reference coolers on certain Nvidia Kepler cards.

What did AMD marketing do?? Nothing.

Well actually amd ****ed nvidia off by showing off their r9 290 during the 780 event.
So nvidia struck back and rightfully so. Games that previously were played between the two rivals, will continue to do so.

Maybe I have been misunderstood somewhat.

I was not saying that Matt isn't doing good work, or that he is doing less good work than he was, I was just saying before he became AMD's rep he was able to wage in with 'HIS' opinion on just about anything he wanted too. Now he cannot comment on a lot of things and I'm sure there are times when he cannot give 'HIS' opinion because it might not fully agree with the party line.
