<<< WORLDWIDE EXCLUSIVES: THE ONLY NVIDIA 970 REFERENCE & COMING SOON INFINITY OcUK BLACK EDITION 9

ive had my 2 since friday and no whine at all

I will let you know tomorrow :) I saw you have two, but there is also a very small bunch of people with no whine on lower priced 970s (which is just luck really) so two it is not "a good number" to define a success.

I am also curious, like the user above, to find out more about the glue system as this was one of the selling pitch for this card on the other thread, so now I am not sure whether we have misunderstood Gibbo on this thread of they have changed the design without updating the threads.

The end results is that these cards are sold with this feature in mind, so as long as it doesn't whine and the revised design works I think we are all happy bunnies!

The glue acts as a damper which helps prevent coil oscillation and vibration at certain frequencies. The plastic covers do not actually reduce coil oscillation/vibration, they just keep part of the noise boxed-in. Of the two options, glue should be the more effective remedy as it helps prevent the problem, rather than simply encasing it. Of course, using both methods will be better, but the only way to completely remove coil squeal is to isolate the components from electro magnetic interference, and that would be very costly.

To coin a Tesco phrase, "every little helps" so well done Gibbo.

Yep the point is that it was said coil where glued and boxed hence the price.......

Whats so special about reference cards then? I thought reference cards are just the ones with the cheapo default cooler and other cards where better?

reference cards are always overspeced and are popular with those us with custom waterloops as we know these cards work with full cover blocks.

Errrm? You advertised them as having glue did you not? Here

Still haven't got round to testing my card yet. I do hope I get no coil whine though, now knowing glue wasn't used. This was the reason I paid the premium and went for this card.

Capacitors surrounded by plastic containers which are then stuck to the PCB by glue
I'm going to assume here the Container is glued to the pcb not the capacitor glued.
I'm sure gibbo or someone will confirm however

i dont think you will be dissapointed, it has such a good look about it, and even the blower fan is quieter than i expected

Yes i have, now, which one of them is reference design 970 ?

ALL the Tech Labs H2O 970's say this. Didn't you read the descriptions?

The factory tested both for us, they in the end said they obtained better results for reducing coil whine by placing the inductors in better containers and using higher quality components, we went with the factories recommendation. :)

Upon dismantling one I cannot see any glue visible but either not tried removing the containers as it would brick the card, but the factory stated that upgrading the container yielded best results and we went with their recommendation.

So far about 5 people have commented on these cards being silent, unless pushed beyond 1000fps which is not normal use, but that is a fantastic result. I've tested my card in Heaven on lowest details and low resolution to get FPS upto 500+ and even with my ear next to the card I can't hear any whine. :)

I will let you know this afternoon Gibbo, I wanted to write a review about this card too who can I contact at Overclockers to speak about it as it would be on a non English gaming website? I can't send you private messages :)

Well, in 5 weeks time, one of these will be in my workstation. Exciting!

Upgrading from a Radeon 5770, which has been a fantastic card for the 5+ years I've owned it. This should be another 5 year investment, so the quality was a massive selling point.

And there you have the proof, not only gamers / SLI enthusiasts are going to be loving you for bringing this card onto the market.

You don't need our permission, feel free to review it and post up the link when done m8. :)

We've just gone past 250pc sold about an hour ago, our German friends are absolutely loving them over at Caseking too. :)

Whats so special about reference cards then? I thought reference cards are just the ones with the cheapo default cooler and other cards where better?
In this case, the reference cooler is not cheapo, but actually really nice and not-cheapo (expensivo?). Because of this the big GPU sellers have not used it, and instead put 970 GPUs onto 670 reference PCBs combined with the 670 reference cooler, which is cheapo and not nice.

Touching wood, iron, balls (depending on culture) it is extremely silent even compared with my previous MSI 760, having a mini ITX build (Cooler Master Elite 130) this card with its blower style cooler makes the system temp far lower than they used to be and as a consequence other fans spins at much lower RPM making the system virtually silent (I am still thinking of getting a BitFenix Phenom as the 130 isn't really a silent case)

Using MSI Kombustor with Fur Test (101% TDP / 98% GPU / 68% Memory / 130FPS) it makes a slight buzzing and again fans seems not even spinning you can hear a "whooosh" when the card reaches 81', with the above stats the core temp was 79 / 80' (a PS4 would scream out loud with less than that...tried it).

This is just a firs impression as I did not have the time to play this week yet so take the above with a pinch of salt for the time being, I will spend more time playing before the end of the 14 days dsr.

Ps. the PSU I use is a BeQuiet! L8 Pure Power 630W which is dead silent and came out with very good results in many ripple tests.
