Brands Hatch rogue driver Jack Cottle jailed for eight months

He was being a grade 1 cheesy dong but deserved public humiliation imo rather than a criminal record for life.
He did something dangerous and was a general retard. A £5000 fine would be about right and 1000 hours free labour mowing the grass at the race circuit.

I think he did a very careless, dangerous and shockingly retarded thing but when (if) he finally becomes a man he will deeply regret his actions.

I am not that bothered about his punishment though as it seems fair enough.

You do realise that even if he was given a fine it's still a criminal record? And how do you expect him to regret his actions without a suitable punishment?

Like so many people now, he lost all respect for the other people around him, and only considered himself, and his own ego, and what it might gain him by doing this without thinking about those around him or the consequences, you might call him an extremist in that sense.

He needed something but giving him 8 months might not be the answer but, those that chose that as punishement, have not fully thought about the consequences either.

He took someone against their will and exposed them to danger of death while laughing at their pleas. He also exposed other people to danger of death, also without their consent.

If he really wasn't aware that is wrong, perhaps he should be locked up in a secure mental facility rather than a normal jail. But he should be locked up. He clearly does deserve jail because he's a danger to other people. The danger to himself isn't the important thing - that's his choice to make.

It was a stupid thing to do. But a custodial sentence is also a very serious punishment.

It needs to be compared to offences that carry similar risks but rarely carry similar punishments. Drink driving for example, or careless/dangerous driving. These normally only result in prison when death or injury actually occur, or it's not a first offence.

The fact this was a prank, posted to you tube and on a famous race track should make no difference to the punishment.

Permission only comes into play with insurance. As he was driving his car on a race track without prior consultation, I can strongly assume the insurance company wouldn't have cared if he'd stacked it and his GF said "it's OK, he had permission"

No, taking a car without permission is a crime.

I think when the owner of the car is screaming 'no, stop, no! stop' repeatedly that's the end of your permission. I can't think of a more categoric withdrawal of permission than that!

For the purposes of twoc it doesn't seem to matter since he was not charged with it.

He pulled out into the middle of a professional race on a closed race track with high speed racing cars under race conditions. If you don't think thats dangerous the...

oh. It's Energize. I'm wasting my time :p

I see that comprehension is still not one of your strong points...

Banter; noun

A term now applied to what was previously known as "Conversation" (if explicitly referred to at all) by a generation whose aspirations have been systematically lowered (due to endless hours of social networking and reality TV) to the point that events which occur naturally, everyday, everywhere are now praised and honoured as achievements.

"And then I put the pen back where I got it from"

"Lol BANTER"

*high five*

I hate the term far more than I should, it's third place behind SWAG and YOLO.

Dangerous thing to do, and a nuisance. Agreed there should be punishment, maybe a couple of months and a fine or something rather than 8 months though.
Regardless, the guy's a ****.

Stupid chav scumbag thinks its funny to impress his mates, drive onto a race circuit during a race and endanger lives... He deserved everything he got.

Lets hope the next time he wants a bit of "banter" he doesn't drive onto a train track or wrong way down a motorway.

People get suspended sentences for housebreaking! (Even when they have done it before, many times!) all the time!

So yes, 8 months for a foolish and dangerous prank carried out (I am guessing) on the spur of a moment, does seem excessively harsh!

Would a motorcyclist get this for pulling a wheelie on the public highway for example (A stunt equally capable of going horribly wrong)

(It is also expensive! not just for the time inside but also because whatever economic future this young man might have had once he had grown up a bit will now be permanently compromised!)

For me, this is a very good example of a case where he should have been taken down, taken out the back, given six strokes of the Cat and sent home in time for tea!

Need more '!' imo.
