bmw 550i

^^ That web site is immensely useful. It tells you just about everything you need to know regarding the vehicle's history. Outstanding finance, etc.
Not sure about previous accident damage though.

I appreciate that you've just left Denmark, but do remember that Sweden is by no means a cheap place to live. Any sort of maintenance will be charged at around £100/hour.
I paid £85 for a bloody aircon 'service' (regas) while I was in Sweden over the summer.

Thanks again.

So would the general consensus be not to even have a cheeky punt on it? If I could get it for around the 9000 pound mark?

It has got a one year dealer warranty.

Do you honestly think the dealer would take 100,000kr for it?? He's asking 150!
He's asking a little much but it's fully loaded and unfortunately that's what it's worth.

£9,000 will buy you a leggy 550i in Germany, which is where all these LHD cars come from if they're not bought new in Sweden.

By all means go and give him a stupid offer but you'll just be wasting your time (and his!).
I can't imagine you getting much more than a grand off at the very most if you're serious but I guess you'll never know unless you try.

Go and have a look but I think you should set your sights on something a bit newer and less prone to issues. Honestly, go and read up on early 550is. See what you find.

Out of interest, whats the score with purchasing a car elsewhere in Europe and importing into Sweeeden? I have an Uncle in France, and he normally scours ebay in Germany/Belgium/Luxembourg when looking for a new car, apparantly the savings can be pretty decent.

If I already had a car I would do this. But it can take a month or two to sort out and my schedule is really tight at the moment with moving house etc.

There are a few thing I would neeed to do though mainly headlight related, and I would need to get it through an inspection etc etc.

Someone mentioned 650i above, Had a look at them? 645/650i?

But saying that, your commute definately warrants going Diesel, I wouldn't want to use a V8 powered car as a 70mile a day commute, unless I was rolling in the money. Only time I would is if my job was like 5-10mins away.

Quite, which is why i wonder who bothers with these cars for big miles. If you were rolling in cash such that spending that much on fuel didn't bother you, why would you want an old pre-facelift E60? It's hardly a modern classic.

Still a lovely car, but I agree, there are better newer alternatives to go for.

I'm not rolling in it and spending 800 odd a month would start to grate on me, so I have decided to leave 550's alone. I do like the look of that one though and I don't have the choice that you get in the UK.

Maybe I'll have a look at 530's.

I had a look and there's not much going on apart from some rubbish spec estates.

Investigate Merc E350s or something.
If you could live with a Volvo, V70/S80 T6?
286bhp and 4wd

Passat CC 3.6 - 300bhp..

BMW 530s and 330s tend to be rather poorly specced from what I've seen.
There are plenty of Audi S3s in your price range but I'm not sure that's really what you're after..

Actually, here's a well-specced 530i LCI Touring..

5 owners, but Swedish car, which means you can sell it for more than an import.

Thanks its a good sensible choice but I'm not keen on the way the front looks in that colour. I prefer the more sporty looking bimmers :(

I'm thinking of getting a loan and moving into the 250,000 Sek mark. Either that or getting a cheap reliable car and something a bit naughty/riskier for the weekends/track days.

Absolutely this.... but then I am biased

Apart from fuel and a set tyres it hasn't really cost me anything.

I think that would be too much tank for my first car in 6 years but looks fun! :D

What kind of petrol costs are you getting?

I suggest the latter - get a Mondeo, Passat, Volvo, etc for the boring commute over the bridge and save for something special for the weekends.

I went to check out a Mitsubishi Outlander 2.0 turbo today. its a 2007, 60000 miles on the clock, petrol. I really enjoyed the test drive and the turbo on it has a fun power surge :). Really impressed by the leather interior and the stereo sounded great, heated seats, lots of cup holders :D I bought it for less than half of my original budget, so I've got a decent chunk put away for my spring track day car project. I will definitely be importing that one from the UK...
