FarCry 4 bad framerate on 290x

I started playing this game today had a few major graphics but after updating driver and using the Geforce Experience to optimise the game all is well apart from the woeful mouse movement.

Just found this benchmark

This a qoute from it

Game-Breaking Stuttering, Frame Drops, & Choppiness on AMD

Far Cry 4 has fairly intensive graphics, but the game performs fluidly on all nVidia hardware. The fluidity with which gameplay unfolded meant that even nVidia devices pushing 30-40FPS were still more than “playable” in both input and visual output. AMD devices suffered horribly, though. Even with a 290X on medium settings, we experienced frame stuttering and choppiness (similar to what we saw in Watch_Dogs) that was jarring enough to be considered “unplayable.” Panning the camera left-to-right showcases the stuttering and frame drops, ultimately netting a somewhat nauseating experience on AMD GPUs.

We experienced this stuttering across all tested AMD devices, including the HD 7000-series card and rebrands (250X).

Owners of AMD devices should not purchase Far Cry 4 until further patches and driver updates are issued by both the developer and AMD. We tested with 14.11.2 beta drivers and Ubisoft's day-1 1GB patch, but know that updates are forthcoming.

Unfortunately, none of this matters if you're on an AMD video card. The game is shamefully unplayable on AMD devices, to the point that I question whether Ubisoft even performed internal testing on AMD GPUs.

And another nvidia "sponsored" game that runs like crap for AMD users, what a surprise!

Glad I didn't buy it.

@ 1440P, set preset to 'high', then knock down to SSAO, think it's the 1 up from off, and turn off 'fur'

Runs a lot nicer now on 290X 8GB. Tis a beautiful game, I'm sure after many patches and driver updates all the bugs will be ironed out and will be able to use higher settings. Far Cry 3 was the same as launch, most people had to use DX9 to make the game playable. It still looked great in DX9 as well.

@ Shankly, you're right bud the stutter is both Nvidia and AMD.

Wait a month and see what happen.

As a thumb of rule, nobody should buy and play Ubisoft game for at least during the 1st month of release, regardless of being AMD or Nvidia users, as Ubisoft always "rewards" their eager customers with free bugs, glitches and "auto quit game" features on the house :D

Could just get a nVidia card then you benefit from AMDs 'altruism' and you get the nVidia perks?

In all seriousness though why are you not pointing the finger at either Ubisoft or, heaven forbid, AMD. There's no evidence that any of the problems being faced are anything to do with Ubisoft's relationship with nVidia. Buggy game is buggy. FC3 used to stutter like buggery when it first game out. I don't remember anybody here blaming AMDs relationship with Ubisoft (FC3 was a GE title).

No, Ubisoft are just generally known for not optimising that well for the PC.

I dont know where some people get these findings from. It's nonsense to say it's only on AMD cards.

I'm mainly sat at 60fps, dips to 50 some times, only time I get stutter is when I drive a vehicle which is very similar to Watch Dogs. I find it hard to believe people are struggling on 290X cards when my 7950 is a lot poorer than that card obviously. I would hardly say it's unplayable as well, or do not purchase this game if you have a AMD card. Utter nonsense.

Oh I definitely blame ubisoft as well but.......

Generally any nvidia game I play always seem to run poorly on AMD GPU's in comparison to nvidia GPU's, main ones being the batman games.

Saying that, it doesn't seem to be as much of an issue since the next gen consoles came out, maybe because both consoles use AMD GPU's and a lot of the games are just basic ports???

I wish there was no "sponsorship" when it comes to CPU/GPU brands and games though, always roll my eyes when I see intel, AMD, nvidia logos splash screens!

I do wonder how all these games would run without "special" optimisation by the GPU vendor though i.e. would FC 4 be noticeably better or worse if nvidia weren't involved??? Same goes for dead rising 3 and AMD.

Of course, the "main" cause will still always be down to the game developers.

And yes, FC 3 has the same micro stuttering, funny thing is though, my 7850 didn't have it but my 290 does

Yep, Greg has 3 titans now iirc. Though from what i gather he's running one for a lot of games at present.

One or 3 Titans Rob and the dream is a bad one

Needs some patching to be fair and single isn't that bad but 1440P frames are a little low at times with drops under 30 occasionally. I will leave it till it is patched, as the game does play very nicely and looks stunning. The devs did a good job on the GFX, just the game needs some fixes.
