So far...

Graphics card: £260
Joystick: £35
Elite Beta: £50

Looks like my current CPU is good (Q6600) but when OR is released.... credit card gets another battering.... :)

Splashed out on the beta and a Warthog just for this game.

I have the Obutto cockpit, Oculus, Pedals and PC for iRacing, but that is another expensive story :p

Elite 2 was a serious time sink for me, looks like this is going to be the same.

So glad of the wipe coming. Managed to rack up a few fines oops

Don't understand it, £400 and you get a Rift 100% better.

Rift is low res, as much as I want one I'd rather wait until text etc was easily readable on it and hopefully it's made more comfortable for lengthier play. Right now I've only used a DK1 but felt it was a bit too warm after a while, hoped the DK2 was better (it is slightly apparently) but I'm hoping the first commercial version has some sort of cooling built in.

Q6600 and an R290X was fine for me to play ED on the DK2. In fact the CPU never really took a hammering. The problem I found is some games (Notably Alien Isolation) don't head track on a CPU without SSE4.1, so I upgraded to a cheap Q9550. That as more because I was impatient to play Alien, I'd expect the later rift runtimes to remove the SSE requirement.

I can read everything nicely in my DK2. Particularly since the default rift centering means you sit too far back in the cockpit, a bit too far from the instruments. Takes a second to recenter and then everything's easily readable (and the view outside is better too). And just like in real life, if you're struggling to see something, just lean closer to it....

As I've said before, the feeling of being there far surpasses any resolution limitation.

I'll be getting the consumer version for certain, was pretty impressed with my mates dk2, also, if FD were to change the text to white or grey it'd become more readable instantly due to it being able to use more subpixels, not sure why they've not added the option yet.

So if that happens, no headstart for the early backers; we will start level with the £35 retail people plus a few goodies.

That's not good IMO, the early access and headstart was definitely touted in the recent newsletters as reason to be on board early.

A wipe on the 22nd means I wont put more than an hour or two into it before then; too many other games to play that wont wipe my progress.

Release wipe? pffft. Oh well, it is what it is. Not much incentive to hammer gamma though is there? Guess I'll wait for confirmation either way.

Looking forward to Saturdays streams though.

Ok guys, I've got a dilemma... Im currently running this on my ageing Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008 model) which is running 2x Quad Xeons @2.8ghz, 10gb Ram and a Palit GTX 770 4gb graphics card, in Windows 8.1 I'm getting ~50fps in ED running at 1920x1080 with all options maxed. Im hoping that will increase a little with Gamma and Final releases of the game, but to be honest I'm very happy graphically, but I will be getting a retail rift.

My question is should i buy a GTX970 to replace my GTX770? OcUK are selling the Galax 970 EX OC Black for £259 and it appears that would gain 20+% FPS increase across most games, my worry is that by the time the Rift is released either the 970 will have dropped in price or more worryingly the 970 wouldn't be powerful enough to run it anyway.

Cant see 970s dropping in price much. Only way youll get better than a 970 is 980 which is a lot more. you could always sli970 further down the line.

Well, its an early christmas present then... just hope its a noticeable improvement. :)

Kinda annoyed it will get delivered tomorrow and I'm working this weekend so won't get to install and play until Monday.

Couldn't care less about offline mode in the slightest, but I'm going to majoty peeved if they do a wipe before release.

Just a heads up, looks like Frontier are now considering another wipe after Gamma but before retail: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=1037177#post1037177.

Might be worth waiting for the outcome of that if you're thinking about jumping in seriously this weekend.

I'm rather glad about this. Jumped in to the beta yesterday ('upgraded' from a pre-order) primarily to get easy access to Sol later, and all I have done so far is rack up fines :o :(

> Take a 'mission' from the Bulletin Board to transport some clothes - turns out they are stolen = fine
> Launch from a station and another ship blocks your way out of the dock for (literally) a few seconds = fine
> Get blown up whilst doing another mission = failed mission = fine

I love the look/feel/flying mechanics, but how are people getting started in this game

I'm pretty certain they have confirmed there will be a wipe of everything, ships, credits, reputation, the lot.

Sounds like you're not completing the mission in time. If you run out of time the goods become marked as stolen.
