Driver's reactions to being undertaken

Yeah, I agree we don't need to do anything that the highway code suggests. Chuck it out!

The point is that no, you can't be "done" for undertaking, as it's simply advice. There would have to be some form of careless driving, of which undertaking alone doesn't qualify.

You should keep your rolleyes.

There is a difference between what's illegal and what isn't within the highway code based on MUST / MUST NOT etc.

Passing on the left is a legit thing to do and shouldn't be prosecuted, unless you're driving like a **** and undertaking in which case it rolls to dangerous driving or whatever.

There is a lot of "should" in the highway code which when not followed, people have been pulled over for it. I have no idea if undertaking would result in a driving offence, so re-read my last post. But it's something I most certainly wouldn't take the risk of doing if their was a police vehicle behind me, would you?

I've already stated I often pass on the left, including having passed police cars, never been pulled over. I wouldn't undertake (pull left, pass, pull right etc.) though as that is moronic.

Ah right, but that's what I was referring to in my case. Passing on the left, I wouldn't class and an undertake.

In general, It is impossible to be undertaken if you are using correct lane discipline so if someone undertakes you, you are in the wrong.*

*unless in congested traffic or filter lanes etc of course.

I wouldn't say I was being silly, more I was making a point. Whereas he was guilty of dangerous driving and speeding.

You keep changing your story. The fact he was able to get past on the left means you were purely in the way.

Next time just get out of the way, no one cares about the points you're trying to make. You're just getting the way and causing unnecessary obstruction.

I'll happily sit in lane 1 at my own pace and if anyone is moronic enough to be sat in lane 2/3 then I'm not going to go out of my way to go around them

Exactly like me!
I'll happily sit at 60 with the cruise control on (to save fuel) and the number of people I undertake is worrying.

I got beeped at for going the same speed both down (when he tried to overtake me) and up (when his massive lorry didnt have enough grunt to get past me) by a huge Dutch lorry. I wanted to signal I was on cruise control somehow, but decided against sticking both my feet out of the window.

I did once bomb past someone at 80 odd, at 3 in the morning, when they were just pootling alone in the middle lane with not a single other car in sight.
I got flashed at for that by them, after they move into the outside lane, so I turned it into a disco by giving them some hazard lights in a sarcastic "thanks" gesture as I sped off.

Do you drive a Jag by any chance?

I don't care much for those that do say 30 in a 50 or 40, it just makes me more look forward to dropping 2 gears the moment an opportunity comes up and continuing the journey in front of them :p

It's lorries that gets me, lorries on dual carriageways and minor motorways that decide to overtake each other. lorries take light years to pass each other, why do they do it!

There isn't any such thing as under taking.
It's called passing on the left, and lots of people, including a lot of enforcement officers do not understand the mechanics of it.

I'm another that uses cruise at 62 in the mornings, A27, A23, M23. The reason I do this is because the amount of idiots sitting in the outside lane tailgating each other to do 70+ is beyond belief. The inside lane can be completely empty but they will all still sit in the outside lane less than a metre off each others bumpers. Amazing amount of these vehicles are large vans or small cars, its hardly ever a decent motor.

For a journey that I do twice a day, every day its simply too stressful to try and press on doing 70ish. At 62 I'm back peddling along lane 1 and occasionally have to swing out for a lorry or very slow moving car.
When you use cruise control it opens your eyes as to how erratic peoples speed is and generally they do speed up when you over or undertake them.

Last week I was in the outside lane on the way home, doing the limit as I wanted to get home (house was empty, hardly ever happens!) not much about but came up behind a car doing 60 (clear day, no rain) with an utterly clear inside lane. I sat behind him for a while, I then gave him a flash which I hate doing but sometimes it wakes people up. He still didn't move but flashed his right hand indicator. No right turn for at least 6 miles at the next roundabout, so I slowly moved over to lane 1 and undertook him. Looking back he was flashing me and waving his fist, I have no idea of the rational he was using for needing to be in the right hand lane.
