^ What was your reason?

I've had my card in a box for over a week now, tempting the urge to not test it until I've heard normal reviews, might wait 'til Friday now.

Get it tested. :)
You have read the guys replies in this thread who have one? What kind of more normals reviews are you waiting for?

So I can't decide if I need this card...

Im going to be putting a 970 in a Bitfenix Phenom, but I'm really struggling to justify the extra money on one of these compared to a GALAX of the same speed with a blower design for £70 less.

Dot get me wrong, the reference 970 looks amazing and I can see why people buy it, but I can't help thinking....is it worth it?

Here's my thinking:

The GALAX is the same speed, and same 'blower' design - of lower quality, yes, but how much temperature difference will there really be?

Price - this isn't a massive issue to me, but I don't want to just throw money at it for no reason.

The case - it has no window, so I can't even see the card/show it off when it's installed anyway. I could choose another case but can't find a MATX with a window that I like anywhere near as much.

I'm sure the advice I will get is 'JUST BUY IT AND SHUT UP' but I just wanted to put it out there...humour me :p

Go for the nvidia cooler design if you can. The short pcb ones have buzzing/grinding problems which can be quite annoying if you're sensitive to noise.
I switched to the full size MSI blowers and they're much better.

i thought long and hard before i bought these cards as i was well aware i could save quite a few quid on ather brands but going sli i wanted the blower cooler and have always liked the look of the titan style cooler, so far no regrets as the quality is top notch and look great, and one quote i always remember is the quality is rememberd long after the price is forgoten

Phenom doesn't have that much of airflow for the graphic card (if at all) so a blower style would be a good choice, it makes a big difference inside my Cooler Master Elite 130 which probably is on of the smallest for "full size" components.

The main reason for me was coil-whine as I had to send back two different cards for that reason (G1 was better but those fans were hell noisy) and of course the fact that it is built on Nvidia specs and not crappy components so as they say "You get what you pay for..."

Yeah there is that...I'll probably end up getting one to be honest. :D

I'm about to get ocuk 970, and while checking prices found that buying air cooled one and slapping on waterblock yourself saves about 40-50 quid. Same card, same block thats in the shop (whatever you choose) sans some thermal paste and so much difference in price ?

This:

doesnt equal this:

+ this

If I'm mistaken somewhere, please do correct me.

Also, why not revise warranty policy to allow removal of air coolers ?

I'm now confused as to which would be the best card for me. I assumed the overclocked card would be more expensive, but it's actually £20 cheaper. I'm interested in reliability, silence and speed in that order. According to the KitGuru review, the overclocked card is faster, runs at lower temperatures and is quieter. On the other hand, I notice that the overclocked card only has a 2 year warranty, while the reference card has a 3 year warranty. Also, the overclocked card has a zero coil whine guarantee, while the reference card only has coil whine reduction technology. Does the reference card also come with the zero coil whine guarantee? Should I go for the cheaper, faster overclocked card, or is there a reason to prefer the reference card?

Pretty much yes, Gibbo has stated also that if you have coil whine on the ref card, then just send it back. This is of course if you are using a decent PSU.

Hope you enjoy it and anyone who does have issues with these we will swap out no hassle for the simple fact we've advertised them as such.

Unless of course they are trying to power them off a Tesco value junk PSU then they need to visit our PSU section and sub section Superflower. :D

Zero whine and the card is incredibly silent at full load too

Glad to hear it. :)

We've sold over 500 now, had about 7 returned to us but not one related to coil whine, either DOA or simply un-wanted.

So far they are doing as they promise on the tin. :)

if you have 2 or 3 in sli then the extra expense is worth it, my top card runs only 7c higher than the bottom card

This is exactly why I want 2 of them, but right now can only afford a single card so am a bit worried that in anything up to 6months when I can afford a 2nd one and a new motherboard to run them in SLI they will no longer be available.

Or do I forget these and just get a single 980.....

I hate decisions like this there is too much choice available dammit :)
