Teresa May - biggest threat since 9/11

"Biggest threat since 9/11" Yes I'd probably agree...

"Biggest threat before or since 9/11" What on earth are you on about! anyone who lived through the 70s and 80s knows what real terrorism looks like.

Not really, we knew that eventually we could negotiate with the IRA and we did.

This lot? Nope, this Islamic **** is going to go on forever and we are just going to get yearly increments in obtrusive security rules.
There is no negotiating with this religion.

Theresa May has been fearmongering about terrorism since the day she got the job.

She constantly tries to erode civil liberties and increase surveillance powers because she's terrified that a) she will look weak and b) there will be a terrorist attack on her watch.

She's also deflecting from massively missed immigration targets.

i don't quite think Teresa may has done quite as much harm as 4,000 murders

Theresa May personally, no. The overall reaction to the events has cost vastly more lives than those lost on 9/11 and that's ignoring the continual grind of low level security theatre costs.

If this sort of thing lets our security services lose a suspect that they are tailing then get away with shooting dead innocent brazilian electricians and attempting to smear their character after the fact, then I'm all for it - damn brazilian electrics, coming over here and stealing our electrics jobs.

However cynical it might be, there's absolutely no possibility that this could be election vote-mongering, right?

I disagree. The reaction of politicians and public to 9/11 and 7/7 has done more harm than the attacks themselves.

I still remember that G.W. Bush speech post 9/11:

"We will not allow this enemy to win the war by changing our way of life or restricting our freedoms."

13yrs later and the US/UK have civilian surveillance measures in place that put the rest of the world today & Nazi Germany combined to shame, calling for privacy is practically an act of terrorism by the governments definition of it.

I was listening to Cameron rabbit on the news about how ISPs have a social responsibility to work with the security services because one of Rigby's killers said he was going to kill a soldier online.

By that logic, everyone should allow Mi5 to bug their house for the greater good after they caught those 12 dissidents in a house in Newry planning to attack soldiers and police.

Nothing to hide, nothing to fear, right?

Oh here we go with the boogie man threat again!

No one remember the IRA, now that was a real home threat. Did we see
the extensive security then NO! So why now?

Just asking......

At least not in some parts of England. Belfast had the "ring of steel". You couldn't get in or out of Belfast without going through a check point with soldiers and turnstyles. Even security guards in stores patted you down before you went in. Even kids. When I first went to Liverpool with my parents as a kid (dads side of the family are scousers) I walked up to the security guard and stuck my hands out for a pat down and he looked at me weird and started laughing. Then he heard my mums accent and his face dropped.

Also, just because you can't see it, doesn't mean it isn't there. London has it's own "ring of steel". It's just much prettier than the one Belfast had.
