Amazon Black Friday Sales *NO COMPETITOR PRODUCTS TO BE DISCUSSED*

So I bought some obscure item for £25 about 3 days ago from Amazon and today it just happens to show up in the sale for £13.99 - whats the chances they will honor the sale price if I write them a polite email? :o

I did once get £40 off a television from Amazon doing this very same thing but that was just a normal price change shortly after I bought the item.

EDIT: NEvermind opened a chat with CS and they issued a refund straight away. Result. :)

I had ordered some Circulon pans that were supposedly previously £300 and they were down to £105 in the Lightning Deal.

However when Ive looked at the item today the actual none Black Friday price is now £118 anyway.

So Ive put a cancellation in on my order. I dont mind doing impulse purchases if the price seems like a one time thing. But the saving isnt really worth it.

Having worked in retail, ignore the 'was' price when a product is on promotion. People get too focused on the discount amount and seem to completely ignore that the 'promo' price might be fairly average or inline with competitors or similar products anyway. The original price is often what it was sold at for the minimum amount of time possible, a very long time ago.

I had checked camelcamel and the lowest had previously been £150 or so which I figured was fine. But for the price to drop to £120 the day after I got a supposed bargain at £104 is just annoying :)

Noticed something like this on a Swiss knife set I've got my eye on. £139.99 currently but going on sale later. If i really wanted it I've just seen I can probably quite easily order it from Switzerland for £85, and that's a pretty standard price in the rest of Europe.

I assume there's no restriction on buying knives across borders? :p

Looks like the going rate is still around the £150 mark, so you got a good price at £104. If you were happy to pay £104 and wanted the product it seems silly to cancel because they have lowered the base price. They will no doubt go back up to £150 after these black friday sales. The flash sales are just that extra bit off items that might already be on sale, just like they do with the steam sales.

I bought the Batman Anthology on Blu Ray.
That's been one of those things I've wanted but never really bothered getting.

Sitting on the fence about the Circulon 5 piece set. They seem a good brand and £118 for 5 pieces seems a good price....

Yeah this is a fair point. I might have been a bit quick to cancel. Anyway the cancellation didnt go through as they are packed for dispatch. Ill decide when they arrive. They do look nice though and since £150 is going rate £100ish is a fair price.

I was a click away from buying that cross trainer, would have been perfect when prepping for a show and not having to go to the gym at 6am every morning for cardio.

But it's just a bit too much this close to Christmas :p

Just buy it for yourself as a Christmas present. Thats my justification for my purchases :D

I picked up a dymo label writer for use in the garage :)
I've already got a 450, and a handheld one but this one I can take out with the laptop and get to work with it :)

I have plans to actually get the garage sorted and the drawers/boxes labelled in such a way that I don't have to open them all to (not) find the item I'm looking for.

Dare I say that the people who have cancelled their orders, after finding that the deal price is not as great a saving as they thought, have been caught up in the hype of 'Black Friday deals'.

If you were that interested in buying an item then you would have a good idea of what is the average price and what is a cheap price for the product.

It looks as if some have bought an item on the basis that it is a great deal (bargains! YAY) when in reality it's just slightly cheaper.

I certainly did. But on reflection the item usually retails at £150 anyway so the price I got was good overall. Serves me right for impulse buying though :)
