Hi chaps as per title

is it worth swapping out for nvidia to run with my fx 8350 cpu.

I keep hearing good things about them but didnt no if it is worth it or wait and get the 980

cheers in advance

yeah no point also new cards in easter time will be about 10 percent quicker so no point again unless at 4k or you just have money to waste :p

I swapped from a 290 to a 970 and didn't regret the change. Performance is similar but I much prefer the Nvidia software and the extras such as DSR and physx.

I went from an overclocked 280x to a highly overclocked GTX 970 and performance is much better but more so like you, the Nvidia software especially Adaptive Vsync

Yea but with OP already got a 290, even if they wish to switch the Nvidia, it would make far more sense to wait for big Maxwell rather than sidegrading to a 970.

good point on the 3 series think i might wait untill them my problem is this one!!!!!

gpus_zpsf798dcbd.jpg

my current card the 290 vapour x i like in terms of performance and looks... i do like the shadowplay feature but as mentioned i think the 3xx series might be fore me

I moved from a 290 to a GTX970 and do not regret it in the slightest, performance is the same as better.

And then there all the exclusive Nvidia effects and features.

Unless at 4k since when was a single 970 enough for 4k?

@op no point wait now for next GPUs.

meant the new cards will be a pointless upgrade from his card. probably ten percent at best.

so cant run 4k.

we are at a limit now look at cpus/gpus just small percentage increases but game are mainly for consoles or just badly coded.

4k wont be mainstream for 2/3 years yet.

Yes but it will no doubt be more money etc.

Swings and roundabouts
But the thing is OP is not even after something that Nvidia offer specifically which AMD does not, so there's simply no reason for him to sidegrade, since there's no reasoning behind the move.

Not to mention he actually got one of the better quality 290s, the Sapphire Vapour-X one.

to be fair i started of with a gtx 660 liked it upgraded to r9 290 liked it i think they both offer similar in terms of rapter/shadowplay ect just after best performance i can with what i have...

i just read so much about 970 being a great card was wondering if it was worth switching as i have both here...

looking at it and from the first comment im sticking with 290 untill the 3 series come out next year no point in side stepping

i ran a quick 3dmark and skydive there was 1fps difference not worth the change....

Way to pick a feature that AMD have :p

Edit: It's called dynamic vsync rather than adaptive, but it's the same thing.

Oh... Way to pick an AMD feature that's been mentioned by myself many times before that needs a third party app to run and profiled and doesn't always work in certain games.

Boom :p
