keep r9 290 or swap out for gtx 970

Tbh guys, we've had dx for years and we were all happy enough, no matter what card we had. Yes mantle has come along in a few games and made a good difference. Hopefully it will make Microsoft buck up their act for dx12. But my personal views for the op is to still stick with what he has.:)

Just because DX ran like that for you doesn't mean it will for everyone on the same setup.

What, Despite the fact that i have the same setup and am there in best placed to advise him i should keep my mouth shut anyway?

Why are we here if not to give people advice, your problem isn't with what i said, its that fact that i said it at all.

its like a kindergarten playground in here at times because of a few.

What about the facts that people still have issues with Mantle and no matter what can't get it working without crashing, memory leaks etc etc? It's all well and good pointing out the positives but it still has its issues with BF4 for some people.

Why did he need a video of it when he has the setup himself? Surely he knows how well it runs? That video shows nothing about how DX would run on a 970 if he switched, you can't say it would be the same at all.

The OP has the 290, if he was having an issue with Mantle in BF4 he would know it already. ;)

Also the 970 does not run twice as fast as 290 in DX in BF4, so while we dont know how exactly his CPU would run the 970 in DX in BF4 it would still not be as good.

also at 1080 the 970 is faster :D

at higher res the 290x can be quicker but not at the video which is 1080 :p

It's not faster, they both have there games they favour.
Isn't a 970 @1.5 around same performance as 290 @1.2

On this site it's hard to get a good comparison of each cards performance because everyone overclock the nuts of them.

But the fact is they nothing in it.

Humbugs post is representing the gains to using mantle with a weaker cpu, to which the op has the exact same hardware. + previous posters have provided advice.
Yes mantle is immature and limited to a few games, but it's an indication of things to come as development continues with games.
If the humbug used a 970 i'd be confident that the fx8 would still struggle in dx.

What is your advice to the op?

Stick with the 290 if he's happy with it and definitely don't take advice from completely one sided fanboys. I'm well aware how good Mantle is but nobody even asked OP what games he plays or is planning on getting. I doubt he's going to be playing BF4 forever.

Any plans on a new CPU soon manering?

very much so, depending on the developers and which gpu vendor they're in bed with for that game, and tbh they're worse than swingers.:D

Oh, right, so you want me to qualify everything that i say about it with "but you may have problems"

If it was an old Tahiti or Pitcairn card i might, Hawaii does not have the compatibility issue some of those older cards do.

On your second point, if you know of anything of a 970 with the same CPU performing the as Mantle then post it. i don't so i can not advise him on it.

Which makes the video even more pointless.

People always present specific scenarios or graphs like gospel, fact is there's many variables.

No it makes your comment all the more pointless, as most people do not have a side by side comparison which is better than one after the other comparison.

There it is, the fanboy rhetoric. its always the same people....

Funny how the instigator is always the one who screams "fanboy" when he realised his behaviour has been like that of a spoilt brat.

OP already knew that? He can test it perfectly himself lol.

Exactly lol, you telling me you'd buy a 970 whilst owning a 290.
Unbox the card but then ask a forum if its worth swapping out??

No offense to the op, but he only recently bought into the am3 setup,
When we advised him a while back that he'd be best investing into intel as he had to buy a new mboard and cpu. He had an fx6 and a 760matx before.
