Howdy.

After a departure from BMW as I had had a run of them, I tried a Merc S500 which was immense - but impossible to park in Brighton.

Then I build a conservatory, so got a Jeep Grand Cherokee to lug stuff about in - jeez that thing was crap - avoid at all costs! Merc engine, built in Austria out of bits of old metal they had lying about.

As our baby has just arrived, I whizzed out and got a saloon. So back to an e46 sport. Local and low miles at 63k.

Complete with mud guards!

Nicely done, none of this pretend 4x4 rubbish, just a good practical car

Hope it serves you well :)

Ta.

TBH the Jeep was a real 4x4, just a bit of a noisy, unrefined crap one. It got recalled due to air bag issues while I had it! With a 5 day old baby it was time to move it on.

It's a 2.2 litre Six, so it's basically a 330i with 330i running costs, 330i fuel consumption but... not the performance :(

At least the front bumper matches the rear eh? :-)

Its like they haven't aged much at all

I dont agree with that and i actually own one so im hardly biased. They look ancient compared with even the LCI E9x range to me. Thats not to say i dont like them but they certainly look nothing like current gen :p

Trying to find a nice e46/e39 sport these days is a bit of a minefield, sometimes you have to compromise on the engine to get the best condition you can at a reasonable price.

Utterly agree.

Took my E46 330Ci (facelift) to a main BMW dealer for an MoT recently. When they brought it back out they parked it between a new 1 series and a new 5 series, and all of those were surrounded by entirely *** range.

It did look ancient!

It's all in the environment though. On the road, at work/home/shopping car park it still looks the business IMHO.

Even the E60 looks old now, so goodness knows what an E46 E39 looks like compared to the current Fxx series

I still think the E39 looks fantastic, it doesnt look modern but thats because it isnt modern, it appeared first 18 years ago. But it still IMHO represents the best looking saloon shape ever.
